Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
It was pretty cool when it fired up for the first time. Now just need to put it all back together.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Putting the front end together and getting all the parts aligned up so I can drill the new holes to mount the inner and outer fenders to the cab. This is the most the truck has been assembled in a long time.
I'll be going to pick up a box tomorrow, from what the pictures look like it should be pretty decent. Will post some pictures when I get it back to the garage. |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Nice looking build. I like the LS a lot. How much of the wheel sticks out of the front fender? If it isn't a lot or can be circumvented by using a narrow tire that looks like a great way to go for IFS.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Slowly making progress on the truck. Put new supports in the bed and got one side almost painted and primed. I may sand some parts back down and put some more filler, but I am not trying to make the truck perfect. I am trying to go for a hot-rod / rat-rod look.
Also got one of my led tail lights built. I have done better circuit boards before but they work plus its hidden under the lens. Running lights Turn / Brake light |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Wow I like those tail lights. can you tell me if there is a schematic you used or did you just use you good old American ingenuity?? Also how much would it cost for all thew materials to build one.
And about the wheel width. Yes there are better ways to do an IFS but several have done it this way and like it, so to each there own. Especially if you are wanting something that sits like a 4 wheel drive then that is even better. I almost went that route myself. Hell I did go that route. Then I got a little nervous about it and decided I wanted something lowered so I went S10 Chassis swap instead. But there is nothing wrong with your build. Keep it up man!

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
No schematic that I followed but I will try to draw one up and post it.
The board is just a basic square one that I cut into a circle using my air cut off tool. The Circuit is 4 leds in a series circuit x5 that a run parallel to each other with a 12v voltage regulator and a 6.8 ohm 1/2 watt resistor for the outer ring and just one circuit for the center. It sounds confusing but not too bad once I get the schematic up. So far I spent about $60 but sill need 4 more leds to finish the other light. I will post some pictures on the parts I used. |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
No Hurry but that would be cool. I have not priced the after market LED tail light so I'm not sure which way would be the least expensive. I'm an electronics technician that builds and tests autopilot flight computers and this would be a fun little project. It looks to me like yours are VERY bright which is a good thing.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
While this is not the full schematic here is part of it. I am using 4 pin High brightness LED's from radio shack, part number 276-0020. They are super cheap right now because they are on clearance. I am also using a 7812 (12v) Voltage regulator to drive the circuit, part number 276-1771. I used on online led calculator to help me with determining the resistor value I wanted. The LED's are rated at 2.6-3.3v, with a 6.8 ohm resistor I have them running at 2.9v.
Hope that helps. |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Have not posted updates for a while now. Got some painting and metal fab work done on the box. Unfortunately the truck is now buried in insulation that I had stored under my house, until the sump pump broke. Also picked up two more parts trucks, once with a very nice cab and fenders with very little rot and dents. Will try to post some pics in a few days. Once I finish with the insulation and it dries up outside I can start back up on the truck!

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Have not updated in a while. Not much work on the truck, some body work. Got the insulation off it and under the house this summer. Finished building the other LED taillight. Also got all the parts I need to make it DBW. Had to take some time off to fix my DD. Currently in San Diego for training and hope to start working on it again very soon.
Insulation is now gone in the pics! |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Angryman117,
Thanks for the LED tail light info. I ordered the parts last night at work from Radio Shack on line. I have new tail lights but wanted the LED setup, but the boards to replace the bulbs were expensive. This cost me $52.68 for both, a heck of a lot less than just one conversion kit !

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Been a while sense I have been able to provide an update.
I decided to use the cab with the matching fenders and hood. Here is a picture of my way of working on it in the garage. some pictures patching the floor and installing my patch panels. Also started working on my gauges because I will not be able to work on the truck while on deployment. |

Have not posted in some time now due to military deployment and now getting ready to move, again....but have made some progress. I will try to post some new pictures once I figure out what service to use now that photobucket is being lame....
Once I get moved I plan on starting up the build again! |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
You're working in as much space as I am! I feel your pain. Two car garages weren't made for this much car work haha. I was throwing stuff around the garage this weekend because I kept tripping on tools and wires and junk trying to work around the truck. I try clean up between mini-projects, but sometimes the tools needed for one mini-project take up all the space. Right now its cab mounts...welder, chop saw, cab crane, work table, etc...

Finally got the truck down to CA. Got a plasma cutter on the way so I can tackle narrowing the front end and then cab patch work. After that brake system. I also have two little helpers! Trying to upload some pictures, hopefully get it figured out.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Rust repair not fun, still have some floor and cab corners for the majority of it. Should have front suspension mostly finished tonight after work. Now have to figure out how to keep pictures right side up.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Got the front end narrowed and made some adjustments to the tie rods.
Completed a few days ago but was too lazy to get on the computer and update. |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Also flipped the rear springs so I have some clearance and got the correct drive shaft installed. Think I might remove one leaf to bring it down just a bit, but not too much. No pictures yet though. Can post them when I get back from San Diego.
Next gas tank filler neck and skid plate. Then maybe brakes installed. |
