Re: 1959 fleetside build
It is coming together great.
Rather than fabbing a shield, keep a spare bag with you. You will be jacking it up to change the tire anyway... Get some of the cheap center bullets ($4) and cone lugs from Summit to dress it up. |

Did you shave the tires or do you have a shop that offers the shaving service? No local shops will do it for me.

Re: 1959 fleetside build
Ran across a problem today while installing the 5.3 motor and trans. the motor mounts didn't line up with existing rubber mounts. after beating my head for a few hours, I decided to go get new rubber mounts and clam shell brackts. as you can see in the photos, im about an inch off on the drivers side hole. after I got the new mounts, everything lined up. I don't know what mounts were on there before, but they were not 350. now I just have to figure out the alignment of the trans since im going with a 4l60e...any tips would help...
passenger side driver side with new mounts decided to throw the front clip on there. I bought a muscle performance oil pan from summit. it sits an inch below my subframe. not sure if I like how low it is with all the air out. so...any tips on lining up that trans. I bought a universal crossmember, but not quite sure the right angle the motor and trans should sit with the axle.

Re: 1959 fleetside build
Looking good.
The pan looks a little low for my taste. I ended up raising my engine up so my pan wouldn't be below my cross member. Kim |

Re: 1959 fleetside build
yeah, that's all the way down. Im thinking about some different motor mounts to raise it some. are you running the same setup?

Re: 1959 fleetside build
No.
I have a 67 Chevelle clip on mine without bags. I also used the Cadillac CTS-V pan. I don't think it hangs as low as yours does. This page has the dimensions of different pans for the LS. http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversion...-oil-pans.html Kim |

Re: 1959 fleetside build
chrome ididit steering column came in along with firewall brake booster and hooker headers. had to throw the bed on the truck to get an idea on what it looked like, it was killing me..
front clip, cab, and bed are just laying on there to see how it all flows. I need a shop. my garage is really killing my motivation.

Re: 1959 fleetside build
I used universal motor mounts from speedway but the engine ended up roughly in the same place as if I'd used clamshell mounts(oh well didn't know before hand). My 4l60e just barely kissed the trans inspection hole opening so I had to trim a minute amount there also using the 4 speed trans cover which has a hump that helps clear the 4l60e. For the time being I modded the original Camaro trans mount to work, I'll build some thing nicer after its driving and all the kinks are worked out. Also an f body oil pan will cure your low hanging oil pan problems.

had a little time today to get the fuel cell mount almost done. im gonna pick up some strapping material from home depot tomorrow and finish it. heres my mount
I added angle brackets to the side to keep it from shifting side to side. https://flic.kr/p/mtpQpa https://flic.kr/p/mtpQRT

Nice frame set up man. This is one cool build! I love the idea of a hinged floor
