I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm |

I just want to say thanks for the good words on the truck. Finally took it for a test spin and it did great. I've still got several things to finish up before it's road worthy but it's getting there.
Still need to get the door glass and vent windows rebuilt and installed. I had an issue with my turn signal switch, and my wiper switch, also. Just a few more small things to button up and it'll be back on the road! I just want to thank my dad for posting pictures for me. Between work and the truck, I'm not on here as much as I'd like. |

drove the truck yesterday....going to be sweet when complete!
Are there any alignment points on the front other that toe? Seems like truck wants to wander and is loose. I thing the old gearbox may be the problem and some toe settings but just looking at it the camber seems off too. |

Can anyone tell me what this bracket is?
Is there supposed to be one on each side or just driver side like this picture shows. I found this picture from another frame that is the same as Sean's, there are holes in the frame in same spot on passenger side but not bracket like this one. Sean's truck seems to be steering strange, like wheels not wanting to center when a bump hit and when you correct it seems to over correct. Something seems wrong and we can't figure it out. There's just the one on the drivers side. You should also have a plate that's welded on across the front of the spring also. These keep the spring somewhat in place ( and allows you to steer ) in the case your main leaf should brake. And it does work !!! I had my main leaf brake 400 miles away front home on a hunting trip up in northern Maine. I new something had broken, but it wasn't until I got home that I found out what. The mane leaf broke off just behing the front eye bolt bushing so it was difficult to see.

Got any ideas on why steering is so bad? The truck is real squirrely and almost hard to drive right now.
Goes straight on smooth road but real touchy and hard to keep in lane faster you go. Could tires be problem? Power steering is real easy and doesn't seem to have a lot of play.... |

All new ball joints, tie rod ends, spindle bearings right? Rag joint? steering column tight?
Did you replace the steering box and pump? could you have gotten a bad one? try setting the toe in a little narrow in the front, when you drive down the road it will want to try and widen a little. Did you get an idea what the camber is? i cant recall the spec but check it to see that its close. my truck was darting allover the road untill i rebuilt the Dana, it still wants to wander a bit but i will be replacing the steering box soon with a init from Readhead steering.

One day while driving my k10 I noticed I lost a significant amount of turning radius for turns and it was intermittent as well so finally after navigating my way through a housing area that I was in I pulled off the road and looked under the truck as my friend turned the wheel. 2 things were at fault (mind you my k10 is equipped with the same bracket behind and the bracket welded to the front driver spring hanger) 1 the steering gear box had stripped inside causing really bad turning radius and a horrible response until it caught on some splines and that caused it to be intermittent. 2 due to the extra stress from the steering going bad my front axle and the lower separate leaf spring actually shifted back while steering also causing really bad steering. So my advice is double check recheck triple check your "pitman arm" adjustment and insure that your gear box is turning accordingly in relation to the steering column. Just my advice from my experience.
