Yea it looks great, maybe you could post some of the painting links you learned from?? I gotta admit 2" from the color when doing clear seems real close, but i am only just learning.

Obviously I have been a member here for some time but I am not that familiar with the rules in regards to posting links. I will post this link but I have no problem if an administrator wants to take it down. The purpose is to share valuable information.

As far as using a spray gun is concerned. The best video's available, in my opinion, are from a wonderful person in Australia that calls himself the gunman on "youtube". He has so many video's and shares them all for free without commercials. Visit his channel. You could watch videos for weeks and never repeat. In this one regarding orange peel he speaks of holding the gun 5 cm from the panel. there are 2.54cm in one inch. According to my math that equates to 2 inches away. I claim to know very little about this process but I can tell you that if you were here in person looking at my truck you would witness the mirror finish and would be hard pressed to find any orange peel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-MimyH3fKY

Another person that gives away priceless information without commercials is a guy in Texas that calls himself "my friend pete". Be forewarned that he is not for the faint hearted. He swears a lot but is down to earth and produces show quality vehicles and explains what it takes to do that at home. He has countless video's on youtube also. I began by watching a series with like over 20 parts where he restored a classic Chevelle from start to finish. It took me several days and many hours to watch all of it. I think Pete is awesome but stumbled on the gunman when looking for spraying techniques and how to eliminate orange peel. In my opinion Pete also lays down the paint very nice. Here is a link to SWRNC (the name of Pete's company, Southwest Rod and Custom) youtube on restoring the Chevelle. Don't be put off by his demeanor. If you want to learn he has the expertise and teaches priceless information.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEWcFLNzpyM

Oh yes one more thing that I thought was very cool. After I got into this restoration, I sent "my friend pete" a link to my build thread and asked him some questions. He shot me an email and we corresponded back and forth a couple of times. Pretty cool to get free advice from a guy that doesn't know you.

If I am doling out credit I have to mention Hugger6993 right here at this forum. He is a wealth of information and shares it with enthusiasm.

Re: 1969 New Addition

I enjoy most of all of my friends Pete's vids as well. Personally I wish he could take some time off and relax a little but he really is an awesome guy, teaches good lessons on auto and life repair.

Thank you!
I am very pleased with the results.
As mentioned several times I have very little practical experience. This is all the result of determination, attention to detail, research, and perseverance.
It is gratifying to have encouraging responses.

Re: 1969 New Addition

I will not be dry sanding to cut. I will be damp sanding. As mentioned hardly any orange peel. Specks coming out quickly with 1500. Hit it with 3000. Gonna buff now.

Re: 1969 New Addition

Got the rear window, inner fenders, grille, cowl, and hood installed. I am having trouble getting that stupid gas tank grommet in place. Any advice is welcome.
Thanks.

Re: 1969 New Addition

Get some dish detergent and wet the entire grommet good and slide it over the tank neck slowly .Once you have it at the hole just work it into the hole with your fingers .

Re: 1969 New Addition

Boy this has been a big job.

Pretty easy restoration. I started with a nice truck that I traveled half way across the country to find.

I will be glad when this one is done.

I don't know if anyone noticed the other 1969 sitting in the garage.

I purchased that 4 or 5 years ago. My son and I were working on it very steady and then we moved to this location.

I have this 3 car detached garage with a second floor. There was a problem until I solved it. Whenever I opened the overhead doors a puddle of water would accumulate on the floor.

[IMG][/IMG]

The garage is built into a hill. I deduced that the problem was condensation. If you put a glass filled with ice water on the table in the heat it sweats.

I have lived her for more than 3 years and was very disappointed with the garage. This spring I decided to heat the garage so the concrete and thermal mass would be warmer.

[IMG][/IMG]

No more water problem on the floor.

The garage was a big mess prior to buying this pickup. Even though the prior owner was an electrician there were no electrical outlets. I ran power, insulated, and put in a coal stoker stove.
[IMG][/IMG]
I thought that this truck would be good practice and give me the experience to restore the 1969 CST that we already have.

Re: 1969 New Addition

Seems everything on the install has high potential to scratch the new paint.

[IMG][/IMG]

Put some insulation in the floor today.

Re: 1969 New Addition

I have this Boston Computer Speaker system that I have not used in years.

[IMG][/IMG]

The cool thing is that they are powered by 12 volt. I just cut the power cord and am running it off the battery. Placed them under the seat with zip ties. Ran the PC connection under the floor mat into the back of the ashtray. I can plug my phone into it and I have a working sound system.

Re: 1969 New Addition

The truck had those multi-piece locking or split rims. I needed tires. I picked up these 16 inch wheels that came off a 2011 Chevy Colorado. The center bore was big enough and the back spacing seemed good. They seem to clear without issue. The tires were new. Paid $250 for the tires and rims.

I arrived at my local DMV at 11am and at 12:08 I had a number. Four hours later I was at the counter. Finally after 5 hours I had my Antique plates.
