Re: Is Eldebrock toast?

I don't blame Edelbrock for moving to a more friendly state if that is what they are doing, but some companies belong in CA especially Edelbrock with the car scene.

So many states offer incentives to businesses to move, but unless they would be building new I am sure they don't have any incentives from CA. It's a shame.

My wife and I love to visit CA, the SF Bay area is one of our favorite places...not sure I could live there long term unless I had unlimited funds and at least 100 acres to hibernate.

Re: Is Eldebrock toast?

I don't blame anyone for moving their business out of CA. The cost of land, taxes, and regulations make doing business there almost impossible.

Here's an interesting thought... the GOV is trying to mandate all new electric car sales by 2035. *if* (huge if there) that actually happens (and doesn't get pushed out over and over) what does that mean for our hobby and aftermarket parts makers like edelbrock? You can only do so much to an electric car aftermarket-wise. No need for the huge catalog listing of ICE engine parts... How long will fuel for ICE cars being around after that mark until it's phased out? 10 years? 15? Never? Electric vintage car conversions??? Diesel swap and home made diesel fuel?

Something I was thinking about. Almost makes me want to just unload everything I have and quit this stupid hobby

Yes, housing is nuts. My wife and I bought our home in 2009 (2500SF on an acre of land) and have it damn near paid off (looking at the end of 2023). I don't mind sharing... it was $175K in 2009 and valued over 270K now. Close friend is a realtor, he told me if I finished my shop, given my 'hood and location, he could get 325-330K out of it. We are NOT moving, but wow.

Re: Is Eldebrock toast?

We have seen this story before. It is always for a combination of different reasons, but this bubble will burst. I bought my current house in 2004 and watched it's value skyrocket around 2006 or so. Then the bottom fell out and it has slowly recovered. The buyers from the city are driving up the prices because there is no inventory and even over asking price it is cheap to them. My kids live in the Boston area, North Shore. The prices there are a lot like California and so are the taxes. 600 square foot condo will run you about 400,000.

There is no way that I can see that battery/electric trucks will work for emergency vehicles such as wildland fire trucks.

Sure you could go out on a small fire if you were done and back at the barn in a few hours, but not on an extended incident. We normally leave our trucks idle the whole time they are on scene, to keep the batteries charged for running radios and lights and being dang sure you can just jump in and move!

Sometimes the trucks are on duty 24 hours a day several days running, with relief crews taking over.

Thumbs up Re: Is Eldebrock toast?

My wife & I own 2 houses. Our house here in Liberty is been our primary house since 1984 when we bought it. We then bought our first place at the beach in 98 and then sold it for our double wide we have now. Both of these are paid off. We bought the house in Pickens to get our son started after he finished boot camp in the national guard. We bought it with intensions of flipping it and make some money which we did. We made a very nice sum on the sell. Paid the house off and have enough to put down 20% on the new home pay all the closing stuff buy furniture and pocket enough to have a nice vacation plus have some left.
Rob from 'no limit' moved a few years ago to Tenn. Scots hot rods also moved to Tenn. It's a sign of times.

I graduated HS in 1999, I clearly remember in many classes being told oil would be all but gone in 20-30 years. That was over 20 years ago.

So when it turned out that we really aren't running out of oil, now CO2 is a "pollutant"

Just so they don't come here and start telling me how they did it where they came from.

My response? The road leads back there.

We get that all the time down at the beach house with all the Northern people moving in. They start as soon as they get here. Where can I buy this and that. That's not how we did it back home! We have really good friends from Yorktown, New York and I tell them all the time when they start up that the road is not a one way street and no toll's!

I grew up in the city. Hey I was born there what can I say.

I raised a family. Retired. And got the hell out of there. I had had more than enough and moved to a small town.

I've been here for over 4 years now and I'm still looked at as an outsider because I wasn't born here, or related to someone here, or whatever. I don't know. But I still get that "You're not from around here" look.

No. I'm not from around here. Judge me if you like. But I aint moving.

Seems like that's the way it is in a lot of small towns, no matter what part of the country they are in. Four years is not much time for the process. You are slowly, slowly accepted as belonging -- it can take literally take years before you are considered to be a local. We've been here for 45 years now and I *think* we finally fit in.....

Happens here too. Need a few years to show you fit the area and not someone moving from say the city and then trying to change the area . We have a few of them here who want street lights because its soooooo dark at night .

Almost 18 years in this rural neighborhood and we are getting to be the old timers.

All of the immediate properties have changed hands more than once since we've been here. I was able to buy one of them last fall

When I was working down in northern New Mexico, a lot of families traced back to the 1500's. Got their land grant from the King of Spain!

My dad's family seemed to move west a ways every generation: western South Carolina, to western Kentucky, to central Arkansas, to eastern Oklahoma, to west Texas.

The problem is these people move to nh to get away from the life style in the surrounding states because of all the laws and it’s like they miss being told what to do so they start wanting that stuff back and we have to start moving farther north or in this case I guess to Florida

At least eastern Montana is such a miserable place that most people don't stay unless they are really serious about the freedom thing

And as Larry and Boog and a few others can attest to: Arkansas is full of no shoe wearing hillbillies, no modern conveniences, and isn't worth even visiting, let alone moving here. Feel free to spread that around the nation.

Had a guy from Connecticut tell me once he thought Arkansas was the nations best kept secret. I told him let's keep it that way.

Sad isn't it. They leave for lack of open spaces and being able to do whatever without it becoming a headache, then move and do everything they can to turn their new home into everything they hated in their old homes neighborhood.
Seems those that move to the USA from where ever have the same problem. not all but many.

If I move deeper into the sticks, I want it to stay the way it is, as that was the draw for me moving there.
I think the city transplants need a required/forced 2 week vacation every other year in a home in the city, to be reminded of why they got out of dodge.

Re: Is Eldebrock toast?

Edelbrock's relocation to the mid south area is welcomed by many there. There is an aluminum auto parts foundry just 30 miles from me. Could be they might get some of the brand's business?
