I still think the solution to your problem is a shorter throttle cable
as for the kickdown I don't know.

Hey Korwin, did you ever get the throttle cable figured out? If not, check out this thread I just found on Ginger, LoLife99's build from a while back. On page 4, last pic in post #87 has a picture of the lokar throttle cable and throttle cable bracket with the return spring connection I was trying to help you figure out.

Looking at your carb install and the way you mounted the cable to the carb concerns me. You should not need a shorter cable. Edelbrocks/Carter's are pretty much a direct swap. That plastic piece that covers the cable behind the sleeve that mounts to the throttle lever can be troublesome and jam things up. You can remove that plastic safely.

The cable should not be bolted to the throttle lever so that it is forced to be in a fixed position. The ball at the end of the bolt your using is supposed to be a pivot point for the linkage so that it has freedom of movement. Your throttle cable is supposed to snap onto that ball. I suspect this is part of the problem. The big hole where you have your return spring is where the throttle cable is supposed to go. Next... If I were you I would find another place to put that throttle return spring, it looks like an accident waiting to happen as in it popping off due to the amount of stretch you're putting on it. Also with the truck shut off, take off the air cleaner, look down the carb while having a buddy press all the way down on the gas pedal, verify that the gas pedal is opening the butterflies all the way.

Yes I thought it was going to be a direct swap myself but on the intakes ended up comparing them the original intake manifold just sits about an 1' further forward which the cable would of been fine.

As far as the throttle cable goes I'm not saying I'm right about it, but it does have free movement I haven't had any issues with it thus far it's hard to see maybe but it does indeed have a clip at the end to allow free movement. As the throttle return spring yes I'm not happy about where it's at I do plan on moving it to give it a more safer location once I get all of this figured out. Alright I'll have to check it out.

But on the bright side I went to the junkyard today and sometime maybe this week for about $250 I'll have a new core support, front bumper, rear bumper brackets, and bed!

Thanks man, yeah the carb intake has been rough but trying to stay positive about it getting a new throttle linkage tomorrow then I should be up and running so fingers crossed tomorrow it cranks.

Yeah it seems to have fixed the problem, I just have to plug up something close to the pedal some black piece I'm not sure where it plugs to do just because my friend had taken it off initially so not sure exactly where it's located.

Now another order of business as long as money looks right.....I have a deadline to meet now.

I'm being very hopeful about this so bare with me guys, this weekend is the yearly Air Show here in Houston, last year the truck was supposed to be there well it didn't make it this year we're really going to try and make it. Also there's a truck show down in the Clear Lake area that night as well.

So if you haven't figured out my deadline it's to have the truck in running and driving condition by Saturday morning/noonish to make it to the Air Show and Truck Show that night. Now I have one great thing on my side as long as is sticks I will have this Friday completely off. Which means I can have a full day dedicated to the truck which also means taking a visit to the junkyard and spend the day pulling parts to get it ready. If everything goes smoothly I will have the truck all buttoned up and running without a grille by Saturday. Oh also have to do a semi paint job on it too, the bed I'm looking at getting is black so going to do just a simple matte black on the cab of the truck

So fellas lets have a little faith in me wish me well!

Well funny you say that I had thought about doing something like sort of like that but I was just going to put the jaws of a shark in spirit of the trucks names.

I'm however considering some ghost graphics towards the back of the bed.

Well Korwin, I'm sorry I steered you in the wrong direction with the bracket, but I'm glad you got the shorter cable to resolve the issue. Good luck with the deadline. I'm sure you can do it. There's nothing like a deadline to push you to finish. Have fun!

Duane no biggie man, it would of been an upgrade done later eventually it cleans it up a lot and gets rid of some orange as you know I don't like a lot of orange.

So the bracket does come in handy cause it helps it put it in a bit of a straighter line.

So don't feel bad it helped plus I had a $20 reward at autozone so didn't have to pay anything for it

Yeah I'm anxious cause this is really going to test me and see if I can make it.

Well who wants some good news and bad news???

Sad that's they way things go most of the time.

Bad news is money just isn't there right now to fork out for everything to get the truck look whole again, I'm still going to try and get bumper brackets at least get some chrome on it. So got to set aside a little cash from the next few checks to get all the goodies. I also have to work a full day but it means I get paid OT so that's good.

Good news is now I'm really that much closer to get the carb and intake all buttoned up. All that's left to really be done is to be the fuel line so I'll probably get that plugged up either Friday after I get off or Saturday so hopefully with my fingers crossed the truck will be running by this weekend.
