In your spring cup there is a pipe, how will that affect your bag installation or does it?

I will build a cup to fit over the pipe.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

According to some rough measurements with a 27" tall tire, and stock spindles my running boards will be about 4" off the ground.

I am loosing some travel due to the upper ball joint binding up.

So the question is:

Pie cut stock UCA?
Buy Pro Forged Super Travel Upper Ball Joints
Buy Tubular Upper Control Arms

I plan on dehumping the Lower Control Arm to accept my bags

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

I would go with tubular UCA made to be lowered, they will be better all around.

Hey Coach..... just an idea on the battery location mount etc....

Right behind or in front of your rear wheels OUTBOARD of the frame you could hang a battery box like this (or enclosed) and it would be easily accessible with side/top posts.

Mine is outboard in front of the right rear wheel, using an Optima 34/75 series. I'll have an access hatch above it in the aluminium bedfloor.

That is a nice looking box.

I will be running my headers up and over the frame so they will be between the frame and the running boards.

Right now I am thinking underneath the bed between the frame rails. Drop down box.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

have you put the tire on and try lowering it? notch looks good, keep us posted. stock spindles and 4" off ground is low. Keep in mind if you measure off the bottom of your running board bracket, the running boards actually set down another inch past that. so if you're 5" off your Running board bracket, your RB would be 4" off ground.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

Yes I know that is layed out. So if your wheels were on and you are layed out, your saying you are 4" off ground?
From the center of the hub to the ground in this pic, is that the same height as the center of your rim with tire?
Where Im getting at is just maxing out your arms might not be how your truck will lay.

If you remove your bump stop you'd get frame lower and it shouldn't max that balljoint out. On my truck ( I know totally diff) my LCA with bump stop removed, hits the frame
How I set up my truck was body a tad bit lower so I didn't have to dehump the control arm or notch the frame. again, yours is different because your body is mounted in a stock location on a stock frame. I used speedway UCA's.

Right now the chassis is on jack stands so it is all by the tape measure. I will have to measure it again.....but I came up with 4" before figuring a 28" wheel.

The chassis pretty much bare right now, and when I jack the front suspension up until it starts to lift the frame the bump stop is about 1/4" from hitting. The upper ball joint is not totally bound up, but very stiff.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

Really busy weekend. Buttoned up most of the rear end install yesterday.

Today I assembled the front end enough to at least make the chassis a roller. It was nice to get it out of the shop and get a good cleaning done.

Rear end sits about perfect. Running boards are about 3/4" off the ground when laid out.

Front end still needs to go down about an inch. Set up right now is completely stock S-10 stuff. I was thinking I would need some drop spindles, but now I think I might be able to get by without.

Bumpers are just touching.....

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

really zoning in on it now. the drop spindles might help with your desired ride height. so once your get your bags in there and cups or plates and get the bag aired to a ride height, you'll know if you want to use drop spindles. You can prolly get away without them, if you plate/dehump the lower control arms so the bag sets lower in there.
