Re: Finally starting my 5.3 swap!!

Made some more progress today. Got a trans cooler line hooked up, just need to get the other one in too. Power steering lines are also hooked up and so are the fuel lines as well with a new filter mounted before the pump. Got my radiator hose tee so I can run the steam port and new cab mount bushing kit showed up today too.

Re: Finally starting my 5.3 swap!!

Today the other trans cooler line was hooked up. The fuel line I ran yesterday was a bit too short so ran another one. Turns out there were 2 broken header bolts so my buddy got them out and I put on the driver side exhaust manifold. got the wiring neatened up a lil bit. Not a lotta progress but a little progress is better than non at all.

Re: Finally starting my 5.3 swap!!

Your trans crossmember isn't moved back? Usually it has to go back about 2" when using a 4l60e in replacement of a 700r4. So, since you're truck came with a 3 speed, I'd expect it to have to be moved back even further. Maybe I missed something?

I know man...thats what i told the guys at the shop...
but i have the engine set all the way back and still didnt have to move the crossmember. Im thinking maybe its these ebay swap plates im using. Should've spent the extra cash for dirty dingo ones instead. I had to drill two new holes in the crossmember for the trans mounts about half an inch forward from the stock holes....which we thought was kinda weird but the tranny is sitting on there fine so its good i guess

You know what? I think your plates may be on backwards. I made this mistake the first time I used them and it put my engine way to far forward. Fan was almost touching the radiator. Got a pic of your plates on the block?

Re: Finally starting my 5.3 swap!!

Have you check out the LSx FAQ for the motor mounts, is has some of the measurements from the back of the block to the mount to find your positioning.

Yes, but on the side. I've got a buddy there that usually hosts a sweet party in the camp grounds right next to it. You just go through the fence. Lots of "shine" there. He was driving around a golf cart with an ice chest of beer last year. Im usually too busy trying to see everthing. Drunk off Horse Power and Dr Pepper.

I did a test fit before I put the motor in...the plates only one way...the holes for the screws that mount em to the block are dished in. I turned them around to see how they sit on the block and the long end of the plate hit parts of the block and wouldn't sit flush. I tried each plate on both sides to make sure I put them on the correct sides. heres a pic of the plates...don't have a pic of em on the motor.

Yes, this is what I was talking about on one of my first posts to this thread. That more pointed side should point towards the front of the engine. I'd bet that they are on the other way around. Thats what the ones that i posted a link to have a notch in them, to clear the block. If I'm right, to make these fit you'll have to clearance the boss on the block.

Re: Finally starting my 5.3 swap!!

These are the ones from the link I posted earlier that I use that place the engine/trans right into place to be able to reuse the driveshaft. They point forward and that notch clears the boss on the block.

I can tell that the clam shell is further back then the LS block mounting bolts. That means they're backwards. There's your cure man! No more driveshaft fix! Now you need new plates or get the grinder out and trim that block.

Yea, I looked at those pics the other day (just did again) but its hard to see a couple inches that way.

I'll put money on that being your issue. You dont have to pull the motor. I said that in an earlier post also. You just lift one side at time a few inches to reach it. Leave the motor mount bolt in the other side and let it twist. I did this to two swaps last month that had used the wrong mounts.
