Nice looking truck Sim. You are doing fine on the welding. More we do the better we get...and I typically do a fair amount of grelding....Youngrodders term for grinding and welding.

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
Thanks AD!
I redid my speedo. Everything was clean and looked good inside. I lightly greased the gears, painted and put it back together. Clearly not going for original. Just wanted something that looked good with black interior. Jeff

Got the cab stripped to were I want it. Before I paint I will get the cab mounted on the frame.

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
just can't get enough of them whites. It looks like the fenders can come forward more (could be pic as well) You don't want to run into the problem of being off because its going to dictate how much room you'll have for your radiator and grille. If you cut the frame right at the PWS box, that's the farthest point most everyone goes there. Then get your grill on with other fender and moch that up, see how much room you'll have. Its better to error a tiny bit metal forward in the front. In the rear you can always move rear end forward about an inch. that way you have more room for radiator in front.

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
I know it! It was a new level of drule with the fender hanging over the wheel. The weird thing is I never cared for white walls until I saw them on one of these 3100 trucks. Now I just can't get enough of them.
I don't have the spacers on yet so in that pic the wheel looked really forward. I made the specs the same as Skymangs. Took the cab back off today and primed the firewall so I can get it painted. Also sanded and paired the portion of frame under the cab only because of rain showers. Gonna get the cab back on and work on putting in the motor and trans.

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
Rebuilt the front end with all new bushings, ball joints, drop spindles, wheel bearings and rubber brake hoses. Got the motor mounted and trans crossmember cut and pieced back together. Since it's going to be a DD I mounted the engine and trans with rubber mounts. put the last coat on the firewall. Gonna mount the cab later today hopefully for the last time.

Found this bench out of an 80's SWB. Can't beat $50 for the seat and all the seat belts.

Thanks guys, getting the front end mocked up to finish the core support install. Hope to have it wrapped up this weekend.

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
Sim6,
Nice find on the truck. It really looks solid. You have a good looking build so far. Putting one of these trucks on an S10 frame is challenging to say the least. But there's half the fun! Keep up the good work! |

Re: Low buck 53' 3100 5 window
Thanks Tikal48! Got the steering and brakes hooked up, trans linkage, colum in and trans tunnel done. Thankfully the heat had let up here and I was a little more motivated to be out in it.
