Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
In 2007 I posted what I did to my french piece of crap (Renault).
We finally got rid of it and took the system out. I am now storing it in my truck because it wonīt fit in the new car. My wife doesnīt want it in her car. Everything is hidden accept for the woofer. I still have the original push button in the dash and mounted the JVC under the dash. The Amp, Changer and Capacitor are under the seat. If the seat was just a little lower I wouldnīt have got it in there. I also installed a remote for the bass under the dash where the manual Choke knob used to be. I put the changer under the passenger seat later. No, you canīt hear the Bass in the Cab but you can feel it! Stereo: JVC + 12x CD Changer Amp: JBL GTO 1201.1 (1339w 787w rms Monoblock) Deep: Hifonics ZL12BP High: Polk Audio 3 way

Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
Ok I figured I could show my system off a little bit. I dont have everything shown in these pictures but the best part is shown. I have a Kenwood 7' flip out DVD headunit with Ipod hookup. I also have a 15" flip downLCD monitor between the front two seats. As far as speakers go the subs are two Audiobahn 1200 watt 12's being pushed by two 1400 watt Audiobahn two channel amps. I also have two Kenwood 6" speakers in the door and 8 yes 8 tweeters in the cab haha. It never can be too loud. Also, the box comes with a power inverter to play xbox or ps3 when I'm at the shows. Hope everyone likes, this was my first fiberglass project and I love it like a child haha.

Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
Man, there are a lot fewer installs than I expected, but some nice installs for sure. I have some plans for mine that I will showcase in my build thread when I get there. I have a stack of crap to install now, but it's further down on the list.
Basic setup is: 2 - 8" subs 2 - 4 Channel amps 2 - 6.5 separates 2 - 6.5 co-ax 2 - 3.5 co-ax Something for connectivity Something for video My goal is to keep the doors and dash as stock as possible with all the goods hidden from view.

Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
I'll play along, all this is in my Daily driver (1992 mazda b2200 cab plus)
4 8" Tang Band Subwoofers in a Transmission Line. A kicker kx1200.1 turned all the way down, the most the subs see combined is 600watts (150 per sub).(cone area equals one 15" woofer) Memphis PR 4s and Memphis PR 6.5s. Head unit is a Premier DEH-880PRS. With that set up I metered at 142db sealed, and outlaw (driver side door open and termlab still on the windshield) with 3.5subs (one was pretty much gone) I metered 144.9db. Soon to be changed to a single Fi BL 15" and it'll be setup for daily use as well as bass race at 139.9. |

Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
My brother and I did a 454 SS truck with 4 Nakamichi 10's stuffed into 2 bandpass enclosures mounted on either side of the driveline. We ran the ports into the floor behind the seats. I haven't seen many others try it. We won IASCA Nats 100w pro class in 1991 with that truck, it was crazy.

Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
How does this work...so is there no head unit at all? I've heard of doing it before but never really understood...what does the ipod hook to exactly?

Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
Just finished installing the Infinity Reference 6"x9" rear speakers and Pioneer subwoofer and the two Kicker amps. Front speakers are Infinity Reference 3.5" that are mounted in the stock dash area. A new Pioneer head unit also installed with a new Optima battery. Lots of grounding to deter engine whine. Here are a few pics of the install. More info. and pics coming soon.

Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
Finally mounted the stereo using a marine stereo housing and bracket. Mounted the stereo to the dash just under the ash tray. Just needed to drill two holes for the bracket. I decided to do this rather than to cut out the dash where the OEM radio is mounted.
What do you honestly think? Stupid looking or ....

Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
Functional use of the ash tray. Hence, the low mounting of the stereo bracket. Mounting the stereo bracket flush to the dash would make it difficult to adjust settings on the stereo headset when the ash tray cup holder is in place. The stereo remote can only do basic functions. It cannot adjust the built in graphic equalizer, subwoofer levels, etc.

What do you think? Better? And yes. The ash tray is accessible and functional, even with the stereo bracket mounted so close. There is about 1/4" spacing between the two items without any interference.

Re: How about some pics of custom stereos
Haven't mounted my tweeters in the pods (still need to perf the vinyl), but got the doors wrapped.
Door with pod mounted: Door wrapped with new stainless hardware: Detail of the door and vinyl: Still waiting to get my weather strip kit, then I can repaint the doors and make the whole thing pretty.
