Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......
I have White Oak wood from Bruce Horkeys and would like it to look like yours when I'm finished. Did you sand between varnish coats and if so what did you use? Did you apply the varnish with sponge or bristle brushes?

MAKE SURE TO USE A MASK WHEN SANDING. My first day sanding I didn't use one and I had bronchitis for the next 4 days. I didn't make that mistake again.

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......
Check out woodbedandparts.com, I bought the cypress kit. Pre-cut, grooved and drilled, polished s/s rails, bolts everything for about $900 shipped. Havn't finished it yet but as a former Millworker I can tell you this is high quality material, very beautiful. Came well packed and you could tell they take pride in their work. MADE IN AMERICA. In my opinion well worth the $. Check out their site, both domestic and exotic kits.

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......
Great looking beds guys!!!
I've been following this thread for a while now as I'm in the middle of a steel to wood bed conversion on my '67 and I have a question if you don't mind. Has anyone used a aftermarket wood floor rear cross sill? How well did it fit? Do you recommend a certain brand or are they all the same? Thanks,

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......
Mine aint nice like all yours. My truck is a 67 but the bed is off a 68 chevy. THis is when I first put it on. Looks like the Original wood from factory and still in decent shape for me. I will someday replace it. I got this bed for "FREE" from board member Rmanson. I been wanting to convert to wood floor since I checked out this truck FOR sale over 2 years ago. Something about these floors that just gets me going.

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......
Maybe I'm the only on here ....BUT...I used 7 coats of Helmsman spar urethane and after 3 short months it started to gray out.
Looked killer at first, but now it looks terrible IMO. I tried refinishing but was never really satisfied with the results of the refinish. I bought new wood (not installed yet) but Im seriuosly considering just buying a metal floor box and getting a spray in bed liner. I rarely use my truck to haul anything. The upkeep of the bed wood was just more than I expected. |

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......
Here is one I did for a customer of mine. I don't loke gas fillers in the middle of the bed, but in this case I didn't have choice because of the gas tank he used. WES

What a bummer, did you apply any primer/sealer stuff at first or just straight up spar urethane on it? Check out Mar-K's test, http://www.mar-k.com/final_summary.aspx it's some good info

I used straight up helmsman spar urethane. With all the coats and attention to detail I gave it, I expected better results than what I got. I've considered using composite deck material instead of wood all together. Ive seen a posting here & there about guys using it on their trucks but perhaps its time to revisit it. |

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......
Nice beds. Just remember, if someone is thinking about a wood bed, that they aren't going to stay "nice" if u use them. I put new tires, to get mounted, in the back of my new wood bed and they caused enough "mess" that nothing and I mean nothing will ever go into that bed again. But I'm going to sell it so--- lesson learned for me.
