LOL, I was thinking the same thing after I wrote that! Actually, I was talking about my 3rd midlife crises, but I'm also on the 3rd wife! As far as trucks go, this is my first of this era. I have always driven SWB Chevys in my life. I only have the 67 now but to date I have had the following SWB Chevys.

64, 65, 67, 83, 85, 88, 89, 91, 01, 03, 05.......Pretty crazy huh?

my grandpa bought a 67 big window in 74, then my dad got it in 1980 saving it from the junkyard and i liked them as long as i can remeber and when i turned 15 this year i bought my 72

I saw a 68 at a car show when I was little and those have been my favorite trucks since. Also, my dads friend has had a 72 C10 for a long time and I grew up around that thing.

I was 12-13 And use to help him work on got hooked I have Had at Least 30 1960-1972 Chevy, GMC, Trucks, Blazers, Over the Years. My granddaddy had a friend who lived down the street from me and when he was in town visiting I used to sit and listen to their stories of growing up and going to war together. They used to tell me that there was nothing better than a long low ride. My granddaddy passed when I turned 12 and I continued to sit with his friend who became a very important role model and mentor to me. He had an old garage out back and was always tinkering with things and had something stashed under a big sheet.

When I was 14 or 15, curiosity caught the best of me and I asked what was under the big sheet. I remember him asking if i was ready to know and if I was sure I could handle the feeling that came from what lied under that sheet. With a big smile on my face i shook my head yes and off to the garage we went.

He pulled that sheet from the back to expose the brightest cherry red and shiniest chrome trucks I had ever seen. It sat so low to the ground and was so long to me. All the chrome and big shiny stuff sticking out of the hod. That was the beginning of the end as I just smiled from ear to ear eyballing this beautiful machine. He grabbed his keys, told me to open the garage door and away we went.

He kept it civil until we got on the highway. After he told me to put my head back in my seat, the motor got loud and it felt like someone was pushing me deeper into my seat the faster we went. I couldnt stop smiling. The loud thunder and roar of it as we just cruised down the highway was so calming.

We went somewhere in that truck every Sunday during the summer months until I had to move away. That was the long low ride they always told me about.

I have mine now and cant wait to take mine with my boys.

I bought my 1st one, a 67 c10, from my sister-in-law, when my father-in-law was on his deathbed. I got my 2nd one, a 67 C20 from a guy who was selling it on consignment at my body & paint man's shop because I was tearing up the C10 by hauling firewood.

Well I always had newer vehicles so when I sold my 01 Dakota R/T i wanted to get something older. I always like the way the 67-72 Chevy trucks looked so i did some research, found this forum and bought a 72 SWB Fleetside. I had it for a couple of years then sold it, stupid decision. After rolling around in my Mustang GT for about 1 1/2 years I decided i really wanted another 67-72 truck. I found a 68 LWB Fleetside project last November that i bought with the intentions of cutting the frame down and making it a SWB since that is what i like. A couple weeks later my brother found a 68 SWB Fleetside sitting on the side of a road. The guy wanted $500.00 for it. It had no drivetrain and was a project as well. I bought the truck on the spot. Now i have two 68 C-10's. I have always loved this body style the best. My dad has a 40 Chevy Pickup and my brother has a 57 Pickup but i just like these the best.

When I was a kid, our neighbor in Kansas City was a retired GM plant manager. He had a blue/white '72 swb cheyenne super 4x4 with a bunch of factory and dealer installed options. It also had the 402 big block and badges installed at some point, just like it would have been if that was available in 4x4. I know it sounds like one of those stories, but it did exist and I remember how proud he was of it and most of all riding in it. At the time, Dad didn't have a truck and Wayne (neighbor) would let us borrow it for runs to the dump or to pick up furniture or whatever. That would have been around '88-89.

I've always been a GM fan and a truck fan, so have Gramps and Dad and we've all driven trucks pretty much exclusively. When I was 14 and looking for my first vehicle, it didn't have to be a truck and we looked at everything but when we came across a '71 swb Cheyenne in blue/white it just had to come home with us.

It helped a ton that at the time (1994-ish) Chevy Duty, LMC, and Manes Truck Parts were all close by in Kansas City and supplying parts for the "new" classics or '67-72's. We were able to afford restoring the truck and parts were plentiful. I'm afraid if I had gotten a '69 camaro like I really wanted it would have never gotten finished.

Mine started when I was about 10 years old in the early 80's. My three brothers are all older than me except for my younger brother by 10 years. We would tag along with them alot. In the summers we would beg to go to their job sites and help (they all were stone masons). We would load rocks from a dairy field into the bed of my brother Terry's 3/4 ton pea green 71. He had beaten the hell outta this truck but it kept pluggin along. I remember the August heat in Texas beating down on us on those jobs but being the happiest I was as a kid. My younger brother and I would put in about eight hours of work and get paid $30 or so...We were stoked! We would load up into the green monster and chug down the country highways with Terry banging on the dash with his palm bellowing out some ZZ Top or Led Zepplin with the AC blowing on high (windows down). Several years later my little brother was killed when he was 16. The memories of riding around in my brothers beater seemed like the most peaceful time of my childhood. I have since traded a sport bike for a 72 SWB that I have swapped for a 67 front clip. As I grind away on this beauty I can only think of the good times we had together...

I grew up in a chevy dealership my dad owned from 74-84. Alot of our used trucks were 67-72. My first one was a 69 gmc 6 cyl 3 speed back when I was 14 in 1979, the first of many, I wish I'd get my sister to scan some of my old pics of trucks I had growing up, yes I was spoiled.

I first fell in love with trucks in general about 15, but had been a fan of classic cars forever. I remember going to shows with my uncle who would show his 57 Bel air. I had saved some money for a bike; finally having my wife give me the OK. We after a little while of looking I found out this 71 was coming up for sale; I know the owner, friends of the family for years & years. I ran into the PO's widow now and told her I was interested about a month later she called with a price and it was mine the following weekend. Love ever since. Combines my 2 vehicle loves: classics & trucks.

My Grandfather had a 72 LWB that we used on the farm and to haul wood in. I started driving that truck when I was 5 years old, and my two other brothers learned how to drive in that old truck. We beat the hell out of it and that ol' 307 was a tough motor. I remeber the first time I drove it by myself, my brother was out on the tractor and it was time to eat and they told me to go get him, I got in it cranked it up and backed into a pine tree...lol. It didn't matter though, there wasn't a square inch on that truck that didn't have a dent. He finially sold it to someone when I was about 12 or 13 years old and it still ran.

I guess it started when I was around 8 or 9 yrs old. I have loved and been around them ever since. My Granddad had a blue 71 or 72 C10 short step. I remember my Dad borrowing it one time and I got to tag along with him, my first ride in one! That was cool. I'll never forget that. My Dad's brother had a green 67 or 68 C10 short step too. Fast forward 5-6 yrs to my early teens, our neighbor had a black 72 Cheyenne Super short fleet ( still has it ). It was lowered riding on Keystones. I thought it was so cool! Still do. When I was 17 I got my first job at a local grocery store. The guy who worked in the meat dept. had a bright yellow 69 C10 short fleet. It had a built 327 with a lopey cam, sounded awesome, especially to a 17 yr old. He ended up selling it to buy a S10. I tried my best to buy it, but he thought it had too much power for a teenager. Ironically the "older guy" he sold it to wrecked it. Fast forward a few more years, I'm giving my best friend a ride to a local used car lot so he can buy a 69 C10 short fleet they have there. It was kinda rough, but it had potential. I helped him work on it right much. He kept it for a year or so and sold it. He pretty much gave it away. I always hated that I didn't buy it, but I was too much into my Chevelle at that time. Then in 2007 due to some unfortunate circumstances I had to sell my Chevelle that had been with me for 16yrs. I was really bummed out after that. Then in 2008 I decided that I needed a project, and that's when I found my 70 C10 long bed for sale. I snatched it up and have been having fun ever since.

when my dad brought my 72 c20 home and said you owe my 1500. it was my first car that i was lucky enough to get when i was 15. my grandpa was a cehvy mechanic for a while and knows everything about em. been rebuilding the engine for a daily. it brings three generations of a family together

My dad had a dark green w/ white top 72 Custom 10 LWB 307/ auto that he bought right after I was born in 71. It was a plain jane truck, but I always thought it was cool. My older brother talked him into trading it for a 74 black w/ red interior C10 Silverado with a 454 so he would have more power to pull his boat. it did great, but sucked gas!!! Dad always regretted selling his first 72. Both of my brohers have had several 72's. i only bought one a year ago. They have had almost exclusively 72's.- 72 Custom 10 lwb fleet med blue/ white top 307/ 3 OTT (swapped for TH400), 72 Custom 10 swb 250 6 cyl, 3 ott, stepside black w/ white top, repainted solid black, swapped to 350 & 200 4r, 72 Custom 10 lwb fleet, 16k orig miles 400 bb, TH400, medium yellow, repainted corvette yellow, 72 cheyenne 10 triple black 400 bb, TH400, factory tilt, bedside toolbox, that was bought new by our uncle. My oldest brother plans to hold on to it. He did an "on frame" resto and added a tach dash. My other brother recently bought a 71 Cheyenne Super 10 Copper/ white w/ parchment interior, 86k miles for $4000 here in Texas, lwb, bb 400, th400, factory tach, tilt, AM FM, cruise (still worked!) dealer installed delco on board air compressor for the rear air shocks. He installed new shocks, tires, front bumper and a few odds and ends, drove it back to Virginia and sold it for $13,000 (!)

My dad and I did a frame off on my Avatar, 71 GMC 1500 Custom swb stepside, 46k original miles, 250 6 cyl, 3 OTT, manual brakes and steering, radio delete. He hardly ever drives it, says it is too much of a work out. He is 73, 6' 280 lbs. He says there is no room in it for his big belly (HAHA). I am letting him use my 72 Custom 10 swb step for as long as he wants. It has a 350, 700r4, PS & PB, aftermarket AC. I added a factory tach dash, tilt and HEI. He is paying for the paint job. It will be green like his first truck, upgraded to Cheyenne Super. I have been looking for a nice SWB fleet bed to swap on for a while now.
