Where did your love of 67-72's come from?

Just curious to hear everyones story of how you got involved with these trucks and why? Lot of dedicated members on here. Mine comes from my dad owning one when i was little. I just love the fact there so popular and easy to work on and turn heads. Dad signed for me to get a loan on a 1970 c-10 when i was 16 and have been hooked ever since. Anyone else?

Comes from growing up in a poorboy culture back in the late 70's early 80's.
All the guys in my neighborhood were a bit too redneck and too short on cash to afford much else than a truck. We'd get a 10-12 year old Chevy, which was old enough to be parked under a tree with a cherry body and blown motor for $100-300 dollars and then slap a hopped up motor, cut the coil springs, slap on some rims, upholstery, and "voila"....instant hotrod on a budget.

It was our way of thumbing our noses at the guys and gals with the cool Camaros and Monte Carlos, and DEFINITELY had a socio-economic division to it.

Fast forward some 30 years (and thirty pounds) later, a mess of C-10's later, and they still bring a smile to my face. Even though I can afford what I want to drive these days, there's a certain love for these vehicles bred partially from familarity, partly tradition, and yes...even partly from my days as a poor redneck kid thumbing his nose at the world that keeps these things in my blood.

While the cab seems to be getting smaller every year, the leg room more cramped, the exterior noise a little louder, no vehicle makes me smile like the old friend I grew up with....the 67-72 chevy truck.....

When I go back into the old neighborhood I'm reminded of "old so and so who lived on this street with the turquoise 68 GMC shortbed and screaming 400 sbc" or a guy on the corner that had the Big block Cheyennne.....there were 9 or 10 of us in this old neighborhood with old trucks and we were a close group based on equal parts friendship and love of C-10's.

Then there were the gals.....some who turned their noses up at our loud machines and rough ways, and those sweeties in cutoff jeans who loved a good ride around town with a six pack and Van Halen screaming from the Pioneer supertuner. Girls who loved a good stop light burnout as much as any guy....

To this day, I won't date a gal who isn't right at home on the back of my loud bike, or in the cab of my loud truck........

My Grand Father had 67 SWB step side. His job was taking care of the oil pumps in west Texas. I used to ride with him every day when I would visit during the summer. I would hunt Jack rabbits with my bb gun and his 22. Those were special times in my life with my Pawpaw. I always wanted that truck but he had to sell it before I was old enough to drive. When I finally got one it had to be a 67.

When I was 15 I drove by a 68 K-10 shortbed stepside for sale and had to buy it trouble was i didnt have enough money so i told the guy who was selling it I had tohave it. He took 200 dollars down and i made payments till it was mine it would kill me to see him drivin it while i was paying it off but that was the deal. I think because i worked so hard to get it that is how i ended up with a love for them. I did a TON of work to it When I was 17/18 and drve it for quite a while then it sat and was bounced around for years always outside now im 40 and my 6 yr old son said Dad when are we going to fix up "my" truck needless to say it is a full on project!

Mine came from our front door neighbor from when I was a kid he had a 71 Ochre and white that I totally loved...

My father had a 72 Cheyenne SWB Hugger orange and white. Had black interior with factory tilt tach and all the goodies. I took my drivers test on that same truck when I was 14 years old. My father died in 87 while I was still in the Army and my mother sold it, due to financial difficulties and hard memories for her. Never did blame my mother, just wish I could have had a chance to buy it from her. So anyway now my son and I have been building one for him for almost two years. I have so many memories with these trucks. My father owned a Chevrolet dealership so I got to wash all the cars and trucks on his carlot on weekends and during the summer. Everytime I am around my sons it brings great memories back..I thank GOD for all the great memories of my younger years.......................Later

Friend of mines grandfather had a 67 SWB stepper.He used it for a farm truck and the first time I saw it I was hooked.I loved the 6cyl,3 OTT and pure utility vibe.I never got over it.Too bad I've never owned a 67-72 Pick-up.....

My older sisters, much older 1st husband had a beautiful 70 stepside. I loved that truck. He taught me to work on cars and mentored a pretty dumb teen age boy. Wanted one every since. Bought one 20 years later and am sharing the lessons with my sons.

My dad a few years ago, don't forget I am only 20, bought a green 1972 long wheel base 6 cylinder three on the tree. Never paid much attention to it, but over time I got used to it sitting in the drive way. He decided he was going to sell it one day and I told him that I would buy it off of him for what he gave for it, and he sold it to me. I have loved that thing every since and I now proudly own a 454bbc 1971 short bed chevy. Love that thing too. I plan on having me a good 4wd version some day soon.

My dad had a 69 swb that he drove as a daily driver. He took me to school in it every day until he passed away when I was 12. The truck is now my brother's and after he turned it into a ever lasting project, I got rid of my nova and picked up a 70 blazer. It keeps the memories going for me...plus I own my first convertable ever!

My dad had a 67 stepside, that thing was always muddy with its huge tires, boring gray paint job and am stereo.
Had to learn how to drive in that beast, almost killed me and my dad a couple times because I couldn't get the hang of the 3 on the tree! Took my driver's test in it too.
Dad offered it to me after I got my license but all I could see where the huge tires and mud! ( wish I could do a redo ) my dad had that truck completely stock, really muddy but completely stock!

Awhile later my mom was driving it and one of the axle bolts broke, she hit the side of a mountain and flipped it. My mom was ok, just a couple of hours at the hospital but the truck never came home...

Wanted one ever since... had a 67 chevy LWB fleet about 10 years ago then had to sell it and now I have a 72 chevy LWB fleet that I picked up recently..

That's funny! My wife thinks a man has "midlife crisis" and women have "menopause" She refuses to believe it's mental and not physical. I'm on my 3rd one now!

I guess my love and interest came form watching them drive around as I was 17 when the 67's first came out. I just always loved the look and style of them especially the Burbs.

I worked at Chrysler dealerships from 1975 to 2000and restrored a 70 Charger R/T during those years but always wanted a 67/72truck or Burb but it would have been frowned on to have a Chevy while I made my living at a Chrysler store. In 2001 I was at the annual Saskatoon Cruise Show and came across my truck and bought it right away and have never regretted it.

Dad had a 72 LWB--- 6 cyl---3 on the tree as a daily driver for years. Thats the truck I learned to drive in, always loved the lines and appearance of these trucks.

Back in the early 80's my neighbor had a slick 69 stepside, I always liked that truck..I bought a 71 swb when I was 17, since then I have owned 20 or 30 67-72 trucks & blazers.

Greg is, too. Anyway, I was 19 when the '67s came out. As a matter of fact though, I wasn't turned on by them. Until they came out, everything was square. These showed up and were more rounded than we had seen....except for a Studebaker. I didn't have the money for anything new anyway, and Uncle Sam was calling me to duty.

It wasn't until our youngest son was almost 16 that these trucks became an item. That was in '99....April. So, I got him a '69 for his birthday. It was a hot little truck with a nice 350 and turbo 350. Anyway, he liked it and I got one for me a few months later. With all the money that I have in mine, I'd better love it.

My Dad had a statue Business and we needed a some kind of flat bed that could carry a ton or more of yard stues, well he found a 1969 tow truck olive green with a huge flat bed, lol it had a 350 good wrench motor in it and that thing could pull ! ! ! I was like 16 and remember reving that 350, it had some nice muffs on it, so the end of the rev had a nasty rumble to it ! Long story short I bought my first 9 years later, Ill look for pics ! I would turn it on just for fun, lol and besides what not to love about these trucks ?

I'm 21. My dad had a 1972 C10, Longbed, street truck, with a fairly healthy 402/TH400..... Green/White two tone, nice wheels, yada yada. Had it from when I was about 10 to 18.

My older sister drove it to high school on a regular basis, and I learned to drive in that truck around my VERY small hometown. The truck eventually gained some issues, and sat for a few years.... around 18, my dad traded the '72 for a 1986 Chevy Van, that was a Collins 4x4 School Bus conversion..... it was wicked, and about as unique as it gets. All it took was that thing getting sold for me to realize we should have NEVER traded the '72 for it.

I have loved these trucks ever since my dad bought that '72, and always wanted one of my own. Once I started working, I was neck deep in west coast national quad(ATV) racing, and that's where all my funds went. I was basically jobless for about a year, and got out of racing for that time, and for the time being. Once I started collecting a paycheck again, I wanted a new toy, and a new project...

What else would I buy? I found a good deal on a 1972 Suburban, 4x4, up on 38"s... my own personality, reflected in that body style that I've loved since I was young(well, youngER).

Another perk is that I own an off-road, gas guzzling panty dropper....outright. Parked next to it is a humble, on-road/commuter, gas-sipping 1986 S-10, that I also own outright. Oh, how I love not having a vehicle payment....

My family's owned Chevy trucks since at least 1947. Along the way, we've had a 1947 1/2 ton, a 1947 1 1/2 ton grain truck, then we skipped up to a 1970 C60, a 1973 C30 (with a 454 ), a 1979 C10 (292, I think?), a 1982 K10 (6.2 diesel), a 1986 K10 (305), a 1987 GMC R/V1500 (350, now 305), and a 2008 Silverado 1500 Z71.

So you could say I was raised on Chevys. I learned to drive the '86 and '87 when I was 12, although I can't say I really liked Chevy trucks enough to own one until age 17 or 18. I was always enamored with the beautiful classic design and perfect proportions of the '67-'72s, so I decided to pick up my '69 this past March.

I grew up on the farm with them. My Grandpa had 70 2/4 ton, my dad had a 72 4x4, my Uncle had a 69 (which was the first vehicle I drove at the age of 8). In high school I bought a 72 2wd. All of these rusted away due to the Michigan climate. Last year it was time to visit memory lane and I bought my 71 2wd and brought it home from southern CA.

Good for you to learn the value of not having a car payment at an early age! (I know 21 isn't that young, but hey, a lot of us wish we were still that young).

My uncle bought a new Dark Olive Green 71, and he always kept that thing waxed and sparkling. He and his wife would take me to their cabin, we'd throw the fishing poles in the back and head out for the weekend. Later on when I got married, he still had it and let me borrow it to move.

I remember it was just a neat old truck, but I never had a chance (or need) to get one till this last year. I got tired of cleaning mulch out of the back of the Suburban and thought it would be nice to have a pickuo around. Got to reading the ads, and I couldn't believe what a bargain these things are. So much more personality than the new ones, and of course it brought back a ton of good memories. I'll keep one around for my kids and nephews to use.
