I love these trucks but they seriously run out of financial 'worth' (ie: steam) after $15k...and great examples can be found in that price range all day long in about 15 minutes on line.
If someone decides to sink...and I do mean sink...$30k into one...knock yourself out, its your truck. However do not expect someone else to pick up that tab should you decide to sell it.......you are one your own and should get comfortable with not seeing that money again. Hopefully the money was spent out of love and interest...thus providing full payback I suppose.
Just my two bits guys.

Re: ridicoulus prices for trucks

I posted a thread today about our trucks at Mecum Florida auto auction. Some interesting reading. Check out the 67 BB Stepper that sold for 27K. I looked at it, nice truck but not as nice or well optioned as mine (not bragging, just making a point). So in my case the 30K I "sunk" into mine was money well spent for me.
So my point is it is all relevant to the vehicle itself. The buyers in that price range mostly know whats quality and what's not and right now they are looking for attention to detail and nos or top end oem parts.
Tomorrow may be different. I also see our trucks becoming more desirable.

Re: ridicoulus prices for trucks

My dad and I sold his 71 GMC 1500 swb stepside that is my avatar. We did a body off frame resto. It was a 6 cyl 3ott truck, radio delete, manual brakes and steering. It was very clean to sart with, only needed outer rockers due to rust, and front fenders due to dents. The only deviation from stock was the color ( dark grey two stage metallic), nice cloth seat cover and a swap from the 3.73 rear to 3.07's. I also added a front sway bar for driveability. It wasn't a "nut and bolt" chalk mark resto. It was also not a "professional" resto.

We were disappointed that it only brought $8k. It was not originally built to sell and I think the color choice hurt some. The guy who bought it added later rally wheels, CPP 3" drop and power brakes and has been asking $12k for a few moths. I am not sure if he bought it to flip or if he got bored, found something else or what. I don't think he will get what he is asking.

I was also not too happy about him plagarizing my original ad, but I will not flag it for removal.

I guess this is a free plug for the guy selling it. If anyone here sees this and buys it, you owe me! HAHA

Re: ridicoulus prices for trucks

I am a big believer in the "Built not Bought" mentality. For one, I have never had the money to buy a vehicle already done, but even if I did, I would still prefer to build my own.

I've built and I've bought. Nothing wrong with either.

Re: ridicoulus prices for trucks

What to do if lets say you've got a 68 SWB complete truck, good running 350 2 bbl, and can't even sell it for $2000? What's wrong ? In decent shape needing the things they all need but in generally good cond. Can't figure out why it won't sell.
