Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Got the box lifted and started measuring contact points.
I still have to complete the previously mentioned list (brakes, etc...) but I couldn't help myself to start preparing for this step. |

So, a simple oil change was a little more arduous than expected.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
I had sprayed some penetrant on the filter/block junction which helped, and as I did that, I noticed that my alternator belt was a little loose...I sprayed down the bolts and then tried to loosen them...Arrrrrgh...busted them off and created more work. So, with that, I started spraying every bolt on the block for future work... I will do this off and on now. Bummer.
Also, took off the carb so as to put in an accelerator pump. |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
That's frustrating....I've been fortunate enough to not have that happen and need to use an easy out....looks like you're making progress, though !

Tonight, I am going to research the carb rebuild. My primary goal is to get the accelerator pump replaced, but depending on how things come apart, I may have to go all the way with the rebuild. Haven't done that in quite awhile, and that being just once. (On a 1955 big window Chevy truck with a 235ci). |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
I got it put together, and back on the manifold...but that's been about it for now, as I've had to do some of my landscaping at my place and also at a neighbors.
I put a 1956 Crestliner Viking runabout into the water, so I had some fun with that too...it's been a 2 year project. Now hopefully the rain stops...geez |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Ok, got back to the project, in between the kids school sporting events, reffing high school and college football, and of course my everyday job...
1. Put brakes on all four corners, as well as brake line. 2. Fuel pump replaced after the original sprung a leak. 3. Ordered new upper and lower radiator hoses and new choke cable...not put on yet. 4. I enlisted a fabricator that I’ve worked with to put the dump box onto Dolly. He’ll put on new hydraulic hose and align everything up. Whew, winter is fast approaching and his help will make things manageable. |

A leak in the thermostat housing calls for a spare from a truck out back.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
While extracting the broken bolt from the block (see previous pics), the water pump had a wobble in it and the radiator’s over flow and drain bung came apart, and with inspection, the bottom of the radiator was toast. New items will arrive in 4 days and 1 day respectfully. Notice a fuel filter in line. New plugs and wires too.
Now I have to find a gas tank...the 2 gallon tank under the hood won’t do...I’ve got a couple feelers out there, and also priced a new one, with neck grommet and a sending unit for about $255. A 4 day waiting period. |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Thank you vary much. They’re good to have...I actually thought I had the radiator issue taken care of, but when I went to pull it out, it had been bent and most of the fins were crushed...bummer.

Could not find a clean gas tank locally, ordered a new one from LMC. Should be here early next week.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
On a sidenote, since the rollback has been on this thread before, I’ll be using it tomorrow to pick up lumber and doors for a studio project in my basement. Justification at its finest!
On Saturday morning, there is a car show and burnout contest in Ely as a fundraiser for the Jake Forsman scholarship. This will go towards education within the trades… HVAC, metals, electrical, etc.… Should be a good time. This is the first annual event, and will always take place on the third Saturday of October. |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
New items include water pump, radiator and hoses. I need to find a new upper radiator hose as the local distributor did not have one, nor did they locate one.
So to recap thus far: new plugs, wires, fuel pump, fuel filter, hoses, water pump, anti-freeze , thermostat, radiator, accelerator pump, points and fuel tank. |

It went in as it should. No complaints. The tank came with a gasket for the sending unit so when I ordered and received the sending unit, it came with one as well. Now I have one for the shelf. I also put in a new neck grommet for the cab. |
