Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
got the 454 tbi/th400/np205 to the house now... Not sure on the direction I want to go with building it. keep the tbi? throw on a carb? get aluminium heads, etc and build it up really nice? choices....

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Well if you want a solid runner with good torque that runs on it's side. Keep the TBI. If you want to make some power, heads, cam, intake and a carb.

It will be awhile before I need to decide anyway though. I got the captnfab parts to put the hydroboost setup on and will do so next week when I recover from surgery

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Been trying to track down a 14bolt full floater that isn't $600
Put a power brake booster on it and been tightening up some loose ends as I am going to get it running/driving as is with the current 327 Also noticed the hard brake line is busted so I am ordering a all new set of stainless lines and extended stainless steel lines from Inline Tube next week and replacing the sending unit in the gas tank. Something that concerns me is the clutch won't return maybe the pressure plate is stuck from sitting? All the return springs, etc are hooked up

On the clutch do you mean that the pedal is on the floor? The pressure plate doesn't normally stick unless it goes over center. The clutch disk is what sticks from sitting and in that case it just won't release when you push the pedal down. The pedal still works as it should. LockDoc

Does it actually release though? Can you have someone roll the truck with the trans in gear and the clutch pushed in? Are you sure all of the linkage is connected? It sounds like the linkage might be disconnected somewhere. LockDoc

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Also I need to either trim part of the tow hitch or Shackle flip a tad to bolt it back up.

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Well she wouldn't start, after lots of fussing around and tracking down little problems including clogged fuel lines I replaced the fuel pump and VROOOM she runs again and at the flick of the key. I am pretty happy.
I have brake lines on order from Inline tube to replace the broken ones and some extended brake lines from ORD, track down the clutch issue and it should drive... well sort of

Glad to hear she is running again! That is certainly a step in the right direction. Did you put any cushion between the tank and frame, and between the straps and Tank? If not I would recommend both. LockDoc

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
got a whole stainless steel brake line set from Inline Tube which they sent me a package for a blazer of course and didn't call back after they "checked into it" like they said they would.... "extended" stainless steel brake lines from Off Road Design which I am VERY impressed with but I should have ordered longer as the rear line is the exact same length as my old rubber line. Going to go ahead and pull off all the brake lines and match them up to the new ones as I don't think they match well AT ALL... we will see Also noticed the fuel line is HACKED when they installed the aux tank so I am going to replace that as well. Our 69 Pontiac Lemans caught on fire from a faulty fuel line (it is fine) so I am not going to skimp on that...

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
if it were me personally, (and i don't know your whole story other than what you posted) i'd re-package it up and send it back and get your money back. Then go get a nice double flaring tool and stainless lines and build your own. I had my extended brake lines made at a local line shop and they fit great. they look to be too long, but when i flex my truck out, they still have a little play so i'm happy with them.
Good luck bud, Jack

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Well Inline Tube has not returned any of my calls or emails. Just a horrible company, horrible product even. Comparing my old lines to theirs it looks like they just took random lengths of tube and bent them in random haphazard ways. Hell they don't even match each other
I went to auto zone and got some steel tube and made my own damn line to replace the broken one and it was not near as hard as I thought it would be. I actually look forward to replacing the rest of my line and bending it, etc. Hopefully Inline tube will refund me...

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Sorry you had to learn the hard way...
I do not know how that company manages to stay in business, since it seems everyone I have seen on this forum and others always ends up pissed off dealing with them. I know in my case, they hosed me down good on shipping alone.

I should have done more research which is not like me at all. Either way the 68 is closer and closer to being on the road. The next thing I have to do is figure out why the clutch pedal won't return/clutch won't engage

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Thinking of getting a 1" body lift (going to replace the body mounts anyways) I found an old kit I bought in the back years ago!
I remember on my 68k10 all the issues I had installing an MSD distributor I feel like a body lift would solve a lot of issues down the road and give me a tad more height... I don't feel like a 1" body lift would throw anything off too bad but maybe I am wrong? ORD sells this one for a blazer... http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/oneinchlift.htm could more pucks be bought for it to work?

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Looking good bud, glad to see this thing moving forward. I also have some pictures of the DIY4X Shackle Flip in my build thread. I'm currently considering a complete 350 rebuild/stroke & port match or an LS swap

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Having some brake line woes. Has anyone tried the kit from The Right stuff?
I noticed the drip rail seal was failing and some not so good rust starting to form so I cleaned it all out wire wheeled it and resealed it so that doesn't become a bigger burden down the road... Replaced the body mounts with a old POLY site I forgot I bought that was in the back of the burb and noticed its missing one of the 2nd position mounts Also the 3-6 position don't seem to match up right and are too short. I'll get there.
