Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Ha, we are far from it. A fair amount of kids my age spend their money on drinking and smoking and parties. I don't drink, smoke, party, or do drugs. And a lot of kids also spend their time and money on sports. This is just what I happened to fall into and it has become my passion. Almost all the money in the truck has come from me saving up. I've spent the last 4 years working all summer to be able to afford the stuff we put into it. A lot of the parts on this truck we have gotten amazing deals on as well as just swapping what we have for what we need. My dad and I are always driving backroads looking for that one truck someone forgot about and we are always on craigslist. We will spend months looking for that right part at th right price.

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Thanks for all the feedback guys! Money has been tight for me i just picked up another job so hopefully the truck will keep coming along!!Lately we have been able to work on the truck quite a bit and accomplish some of the things we have wanted to do for awhile.
First of all we started working on an anti-wrap bar. We decided to call up Don at Sniperfab to work out a couple pieces for us. And as with any prototype parts, the first batch (shown here) was a little off. The shackles and rear ring were perfect but the other parts needed a few changes. After some painting and welding we ended up with these. Here is the back ring And after hours of Cutting fitting and grinding we finally got the bar made.

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Here are the new front shackles installed
We also torched the 86 body mounts to make room for some new ones soon And thanks to craigslist we picked up a few 24 AN hose/fitting pieces that we wanted to make work for the radiator, my Dad welded a fitting to the thermostat housing and we will do the same on a radiator later. My dad managed to find a 61 gmc 4x4 that had been hit in the back but all the 4x4 stuff was in good condition so we ended up buying it and pulled the hood, grille, and grill support wings. All of which is in great condition I just had to hook the lights up to a battery, all 4 work...even the blinkers The wings turned out to be in better shape than the ones we had, so with nothing to lose we added a few holes to the old ones. :smokin: We also popped a hole in the hood latch

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Same concept. I didn't like their axle truss approach or how they attached the upper end though. I think ours is cleaner.

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Alright guys now we are back on track... My dad got a killer deal on a warn 12000 lbs winch that is a few years old. It was hardly used and it had a little rust inside it but we tore it down cleaned it up and put her back together and she moves perfectly.
We played around with the winch and managed to get it to fit nicely between the frame rails with a little trimming We debated many different ways to mount the winch while keeping the stock body/spring mount setup but came to the conclusion that it would be best to torch everything off and start fron scratch. With a clean slate to start from we cut out a base plate to mount the winch to After that we made the front plate and added some holes. We also had to clearance the faceplate a little for the clutch lever. I painted the fairlead and polished the rollers

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
we added a few gussets on the inside, side plates, and the spring hangers which we moved back a 1/2 inch and down a 1/2 inch to help the shackle angle
i played arond with some cardboard and we decided to add these gussets to the spring hangers and welded it all up. The next step is to add body mounts to the top of the spring hangers

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
We finally got a new cab with good floors to use as the front part of the extended cab and we'll use the back of the original one to add on as the extension. We also picked up a 60-63 chevy dash to play with.
