Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
My welder has been out of gas since November (even though I have lots of gas). I used lots of doors to make one phantom door. I used the rear of a passenger door for the front of the new door for the body lines. I used the rear of a drivers door for the rear of the new door. Multiple window frames to build the new window frame. I found 2 rusted out suburban doors for FREE for the window frames. I have 2 FREE cabs for the door jamb parts. Wife doesn't like back yard right now. Not to mention the other complete truck for the front sheetmetal. I have been collecting parts for 6 years now.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
Parts are going together.
Hope tonight I can finish what I started on this piece. My son isn't feeling too well, so I had to stop here. I got everything tacked in, and started welding it up. I finish welded the top of the sill. It is taking a lot of time because I am keeping my heat down and checking and re-checking fit over and over again! I really need to find a passenger door so I can keep going once this is done. Body guys, what do you think? How am I doin?

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
Looks like how mine started. Just need to add a little here and cut out a little there and it will all work out. When your welds start to overlap you are getting close.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
Just thought of something, if your still lookin for a door let me know witch one cause I might have an extra one lying around that I picked up for my extended cab build that I may not need. I think I am down to just needing some good burb front doors and have a surplus of truck doors.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
Funny story... I have two wallets... one I carry, one I keep all my rarely used cards in...
For the past few weeks, every time my wife would ask me if I had any cash, I would check the one I carry and say "no". Well, today, since we were going to the Pediatricians office for the minions I grabbed the other wallet and handed it to my wife. While waiting in the room for the DR my wife is organizing my wallet and exclaims "Whoa! Babe! I thought you said you didn't have any cash!" (I am thinking she is messing with me) Of course I reply "I don't!" Next thing I know she is pulling a WAD of cash out of my wallet! Where the frick did that come from! (I still don't remember!) Well, needless to say, my senility bought me some much needed parts for the burb and momma a new double jogging stroller. So I already have a parts list for the next time I go to the Doctors... and some updates and pictures will be here tomorrow!

Dirty
More silicone than Hollywood Clean Locked and loaded Gonna play with the contact pattern a little more tomorrow, I'm not 100% satisfied with it yet. Initial shim pack at 0.020"... It looks like 0.025" will dial it in perfect

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family
Some swear by them, I swear at them! just think what damage one of those silicone beads could do to a ring and pinion! I will take a picture of how much I use on the cover... And it WILL SEAL! You can see I have NONE squeezing out of the pinion carrier pictured above... also I think my M1008 thread has another picture of one done right.
Eventually I will post the pictures of the clear RTV that was sealing some of the holes in the body! I'm not complaining about that one though... it DID keep SOME water out. I have had these disc brackets forever! I was going to use them on my 96 SAS rig, but they wouldn't clear the springs! Glad you are following along! I'm hoping to have some sweet updates by the end of next week! Here are some of my targets for these next two weeks: Finish the 14 bolt (there's a surprise ending to this one!) See what Chris has for doors Get the C-pillar tacked in
