Did you have to push it in? I thought that you had it running. Regardless, I'm glad to see that 'Matter' has a warm place to sleep now.

I rebuilt the carb a while back. The fuel lines had a lot of rust in them. I wanted to redo the entire system to prevent problems. We had to drag it in.

Re: Look what I found

Progress

Got time to work on the fuel system.

Here are the new fuel lines. The main line from pump to the tank fit great. But the second line wasn't long enough to go to the tank. It looks like I might be missing something or ordered the wrong line set. I ordered PN 55-084201 from the Truck shop.

Removed seat

What are people charging to redo their seats? I know it's a vague question. Just an idea.

Removed sending unit. I couldn't blow air thru it even 90 psi gave just a little hiss. I thought I knew how to use a meter to check to see if it reads anything, but couldn't get any continuity anywhere. The filter is brittle. I guess it's time for a new sending unit.

We've had 3 seats done by the same guy in the last couple years, and he charged 300 buck apiece for them in two tone vinyl.

In the Seattle area the going rate is 85$/hour and most stuff is easily factored by the hour.

Thats going to be the next thing I buy. Mine has never worked very good. In fact I'm going to get it now. Should have done that awhile ago.

Re: Look what I found

Worked a little more. I used my vacumm pump to pull the fuel from the tank to the carb.

It not only did that, but it also flushed some junk out of the lines.

Tried to start it, but no luck. The fitting at the carb is dry even after cranking several times. When I got the truck it had an electric fuel pump on it. I'm sure it was there because the mechanical pump was shot.

Just hope I can find the correct fuel pump so I don't have to rework my lines. I searched online at Advance auto, O'Rileys and the truck shop. The pics they had didn't look like the one on the truck. Maybe they were generic pics. If I remember right this is a 235 engine.

Good luck.

Remember the process for building these things.....1 step forward, 2 steps back.

J/K I hope it works out where you don't have to rebend new lines.

Re: Look what I found

Alan if you cant find the correct one, Could you get away with getting a block off plate and building a bracket to mount the eletric pump. Hopefully you wouldn't have to rebend anything.

Shannon and I found one at Advance auto. It was a perfect fit.

Tried to fire it but no spark. With some basic checks we determined to replace the plugs, coil, points/condensor and rewire some things. I had already replaced the cap and rotor. I had 12v to the coil. Hopefully this will get it running.

You can see the coil in this pic and it looks to be as old as the truck.

Re: Look what I found

It Runs!!

Replaced the points, condensor, coil and plugs. Also replaced this wire from the coil to the distributor.

Tried to figure out how to set the timing. Never done one like this before. It says set the octane selector to zero. How do you know it is at zero? I'm guessing it is the knob above the timing scale.

Where is the hole in the flywheel housingand the steel ball?

I put a thread up trying to figure out how to set the timing. Here is the LINKY

She runs fair. Hard to start and stumbles when I gas it a little. Have not drove it yet. Still have to put the seat in and a few other things.

Re: Look what I found

That stumble, if I heard it correctly sounds like the accelerator pump..can you adjust it to shoot in a little earlier when you step on it?

I've never seen this thread before; no wonder the '65 isn't done!! At least I'm not the only one jumping back and forth.

Re: Look what I found

I had a similar problem with mine.. if the choke lever is pulled out a little bit it would help... I ended having to adjust the mixture screw on the side of the carb. Don't know if its the same problem, I thought that it was timing.. but after a little trial and error it runs great... Good luck

Can't wait to see it running down the road..

Re: Look what I found

That sounded just like my 64 before a bought a rebuild kit and changed out the accelerator pump rubber seal. They like to dry out when nobody drives them for awhile. When you going to drive that thing to work?
