Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
No worries, but honestly though, I'd just go to Harbour Freight down in the states if I was to do it again...
http://www.harborfreight.com/90-lb-p...lid-93889.html A lot less hassle, no worry welds and it pretty much cost me this much to make it anyways! Cheers, Ted.

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
Little update on what I've been up to...
Working on trying to get the electric windshield wipers rigged up and working... and took alot of great info from a design here on the site. I wanted to try to put the electric wiper motor back where the stock one was (had the original vacuum one to reference thankfully) and keep everything nice and tucked away. I also wanted to ensure that I could get the wipers to move in as great of a sweep as possible to clear as much of the windshield as they can reach. I found that it isn't the arc of travel on the motor that's critical on the wipers distance, but the amount of "throw" that the rods travel to get that arc. So, with paper and pen, I jotted a few measurements down and set to work. This is what I came up with... And assembled, like this... Installed... The location of the pivot pins (brass) is infinitely adjustable from the center of rotation for each wiper. I found that this combination allowed me to get a sweep where the wipers both settle flat to the bottom of the window and wipe to an angle so that they are within 1/4" - 1/2" from the sides of the window at the upper tip ( I can make them go right past the edge and off the side if I wanted to... been there done that). So, with a fair bit of fine tuning, got it just right and happy with it... looks great and tucked in nice and neat! Now... to just find a good looking intermittent switch to go with it! Cheers, Ted.

Your wiper set up looks great, much better than my crude design. Have you got your switch yet? I am just starting to put my truck together, but don't have the switch picked out yet.

Ted,
Very, very nice piece of fabrication - as always. The bigger question is, "how much are you charging?" I'm first in line. Last edited by jeffs51chevy; 08-04-2010 at 10:43 PM. |

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
Ummm... wow... didn't quite expect the thought of making a conversion kit for these! I wouldn't even know what to charge for such a kit, but might be willing. The prototype took a fair bit of time, but now that's done... would be a lot less time.
Things that make you go hmmmm... Ted.

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
Well, been giving it a bit of thought lately and I do think I'll go ahead and produce a few sets. The initial setup and measurements took me about 10hrs, but I think I can cut that back a fair bit in the production setup. Trying to be fair in price but also in my time so I figure about $60 per setup would round out somewhere in between.
There are however a few things I'm trying to source for my truck that I'd be will to work out a deal on if anyone has extras they're willing to part with... - the outside trim for a passenger door, in stainless and in good shape. - a stainless glovebox door that isn't dented (have one of those already) that will polish up nicely - cast aluminum finned covers for a sbc 350 - aluminum underdrive pullies for a sbc 350 preferably serpentine style - stainless bumpers - nice set of swan neck mirrors - some sort of rearview mirror for our trucks (pref chrome or ss) It will take me some time to get everything machined out and put together but those that have spoken up will have first dibs if they choose to. Cheers, Ted.

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
Just to note... this does not include the motor. This is just the kit to adapt an electric one from an early 90's S10 Blazer rear window wiper motor for use in AD trucks. I can source them from local yards for you and include one for a little more ($25 if I can find them) but I suspect most can get them in the US a lot cheaper than I can up here. Currently, the motors are single speed, self parking... I'm also working on trying a setup for intemittents from a stock vehicle and will post when / if I do. ($90 for a cheezy switch isn't my idea of being rod worthy!)
Cheers, Ted.

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
You would be right... I've had a few and thought that I would post for those that have... just let let know them know what's happening.
I've already started making a few sets of the parts (10 in total at the moment), so will take a bit due to a full time job and other commitments, but they are in the works. I may look into another set in the future if the desire exists, but I honestly never expected this to turn into a sales thread... lol! So far, the list, as PM'd and posted is: 1. Jeffs51chevy - Shipped - Rec'd 2. 54Jimmy - Paid - Shipped 3. a5Ben - Paid - Shipped 4. Wibas 5. Av8tr3337 6. nomas54 7. rhodog 8. T Hilde - Paid - Shipped 9. MarKist 10. drummin89 Once I've got them all made up, I'll get ahold of everyone to discuss how you'd all like them shipped and the cost, PM me if you change your mind and payment will be through Paypal. I don't suspect it will take too long, probably a couple of weeks at best. Cheers! Ted.

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
Alum is T-6061, steel parts are just CRS heat treated in an oil bath for corrosion prevention, not proofing.
Patents are pending... always good to have lawyers for friends Progress has been good, main bodies almost done, wing section 3/4 done... just nuts to finish up... Cheers, Ted.

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
Well over half way done on the parts, should be looking at completion by this time next week, fingers crossed.
For those that have requested to be put on the "list" that aren't on it. I may look at another run in a month or so, or if I get another 10 names to run a set off. But I'll keep you on the list unless you change your mind. For those that have indicated interest, I'll PM you all with the particulars when the last parts are complete. Cheers and thanks for your patience, Ted.

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
Still working on the first batch of 10 and coming along rather quickly for doing them in my 'offtime'. Patents have been filed in Canada and the US (ouch) and just waiting to hear back from them for the grant.
Had a chat with a machinist buddy of mine who's possibly interested in doing a batch for me based on my drawings. So, to this extent, here's a list of names on the 'next' set: 1. BlueJeep 2. HALFADIME 3. weids 4. ozzie50 Before the second batch gets shipped, I'll be waiting to hear back from those that were on the first list, just incase any issues were encountered that needs resolving. Cheers! Ted.

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
Hey Thad are these the over all measurement including cab mount bushings or are they just the measurements for you cab mounts minus the bushings.
I used the cab mount diagrams I've seen on the forum and used 4X4 square tubing and the stock S10 cab mount bushings which made my over all height from frame to cab bottom close to 5 inches.

Re: It finally starts... another S10 swap...
When I set mine up, I put the 4x4 blocks (3 1/2" actual measurements) between the cab supports and the frame, with a 1/4" shim under the rear set. From there I ran a 1/2" bolt down from above, through the S10 mounts (used an Energy Suspension set) then through the cab mounting brackets (the ones you fab'd up and through a huge fender washer on the bottom (made stainless ones for mine).
All of that bolted together, lightly held to the frame, then torqued down the cab mounts to the S10 spec (think it was 55 ft/lbs). Once there, made sure it was all still close to the frame and tack welded the mounts in. The nice part about the Energy suspension bushings is that the through holes are oblong and so it allows you to shift your cab side to side and forward a little, even after the fact. The next time you take the cab off, weld the supports that go from above the frame to the mounts on and finish off the welds that you tack welded on, dress and paint... done. I find that most tend to weld those backside braces on at the beginning and thus have no real height adjustment when setting them up. I'm sure there are many ways of doing this, this was just mine. I believe the S10 Energy suspension bushings were about 1" tall, so this would have made the cab mounts only about 2 1/2" above the frame. But this low, you'll have to cut the floor for the trans... depends on where you wanna go... Hope this helps and isn't confusing... Cheers, Ted.
