Re: Good 70 SWB
I wanted to be able to route my exhaust up through the rear cross member so it did not hang down below the frame. I read this could be done in a FAQ and it mentioned cutting the crossmember may weaken it and you should reinforce it. So.
I had some 4 in pipe laying around and had my neighbour cut a couple sleeves from it on his band saw. I ground down the area that I plan to cut out. I located where I wanted the sleeves to go this is pretty much center top to bottom and frame rail to trailing arm mount. Used plasma cutter to cut it out |

Re: Good 70 SWB
I test fit the sleeve and flushed it to the edge of the crossmember.
Ok got the sleeves welded in and ground down. Here is a close up. Here is a picture of both sides Here it is after some etch primer and paint applied. Come out pretty nice. |

Missed this one somehow...nice work. I'm sure Steve can give you some good advice on rust repair, I think he's done it a time or two....

Re: Good 70 SWB
Wow talking about taking a Sabbatical... Looking at my build thread I had not posted anything since Jan 2011. Well I have been working some on my build but have to say I have not made much progress in that time. I have done some additional Firewall smoothing by filling in some extra holes etc. Pictures to follow. I also have aligned and gaped doors, fenders, hood, I picked up new bedside and tailgate. Currently everything is pulled apart for blocking and paint prep. I hope to begin painting panels in by end of month.

Re: Good 70 SWB
So I decided I would not need all the holes for Throttle linkage and wiring. I will look to route wiring through fender and frame instead. Also the area where the EBrake mounted was bothering my. I did not like the way it stuck out so I cut it out and filled it in so it was flat. Here it the end result.

Also I recently picked up some Bucket seats from an 80's Silverado. Will be looking to have these redone.
