Paint used for the engine is just a single stage paint. It was sand blasted prior to paint so no worries about grease and such. Will it last? Who knows but I think it will be fine. The other engines we've done this way have lasted just fine.

FYI, the color was choosen to match the centers of the Coys wheels and to add some contrast to the engine bay.

She's looking like she'll be up for parol in a month or so. Granted it could be denied too!

Finally was able to stop by yesterday afternoon. They are working on the tailgate trying to get it buttoned up. Because the aftermarket tailgate doesn't fit, we're trying a new approach by taking out the sides of the original which are narrower and then replacing them in the repop. Hopefully this will allow the body lines to match up between the tailgate and fenders. I'm also having them weld a piece of square tubing on the backside of the inner panel to give it some strenght if someone steps on it. Trying to avoid bending it like others have experienced.

They still have a lot of detail work to be done like door latches, booster prep, etc. But after the major pieces those should go by quickly. If they busted butt on it, they could have the pieces ready for paint this week and be applying it next week. Unfortunately I can't babysit all day so it will take longer than I'd like.

Many of posts on the weakness of the repop tailgates. Just sitting on them or stepping on them bows the tailgate. It's a definite difference in metal thickness and quality. But you can buy a repop for $200 or buy NOS for $900. That's if you can find one.

Re: CTrow's Truck

Nothing much more to report after this weekend. Washed the frame, polished some chrome, and got the spark plug wires routed like I wanted.

I pushed it outside to get a better idea what the exhaust will sound like. It's probably louder than I'd like but it sounds good.

Last thing before the painter will be to get the wiring harnes cleaned up and get some nice dip sticks for the motor/trans. Oh, driveshaft too.

Not quite sure what the dimensions were on it but it's a 3" Magnaflow.

I love those rims. Do you know what the back space is? I have heard that 5 inches is about right. Do you also know if the 20x10's would fit in the front? I like the frount and back to be the same if possable.

Thanks,

Vex

Front 4 3/4" and rear is 5".

Doubt you're going to get a 10" on front but that's only a guess. Anything is possible though.

Re: CTrow's Truck

I'm going to have to get this finished. I leave it at my Dad's any longer there's no telling what other parts he's going to snag from mine to put on his truck.

Not sure yet if I'm going to be able to make it. I'd have to trailer it up from Ada and it would be just the chassis. Maybe I'll be putting together the body at that time after being done from paint! You never know.

Well if you can't bring it, just show up. Several people won't be able to bring their rides.

Re: CTrow's Truck

Truck is still in paint prison. I'm estimating parole in 2011.... LOL

If I ever get it on the road I'll forget about all the bad stuff but some days, I wonder if I shouldn't have just bought a late model truck and modified it instead.

Man don't know how I missed your thread all this time. Looking forward to the progress on it. I know you're going through some issues with the painter, but I hope you keep plugging away at it. You've done so much and have a nice looking truck.
