Re: Project '67 GMC "AO" (All Original)

Thanks! I hope to have more pictures of it up soon once I get better from the dental surgery. "Not supposed to have any strenuous activity" haha. I hope to have some pictures up soon though, I'm afraid to roll it outside due to the falling acorns lol.

Re: Project '67 GMC "AO" (All Original)

Alright, for awhile now the trucks been back home from the paint & body shop. School, and dental surgery have kept me from posting pictures but not from working on the truck! So finally I have some pictures of the paint & the progress thats been made since it got back about the first of October.

For some reason, the camera will NOT give the paint credit, it looks WAY better in person believe me. I took these at night so bare with me. Hope ya'll enjoy!

Time to pay a salute to old not-so-tippy engine stand from Harbor Freight. Did a great job holding the engine on my first engine build.

We've put the engine in.

And here are some pictures of the paint/engine. The engine will be getting a chrome valve cover I had the old one one for protection while we dropped it in.

Engine get's some love.

Re: Project '67 GMC "AO" (All Original)

Alright, the story of my sanity these past few weeks..

After much deliberation the truck was finally fired-up for the first time for camshaft break-in. Only 15 minutes in and the wire that charges the battery from the alternator burnt up due to a loose connection. Finally got around to replacing that, then tried to fire it up but to no avail another problem. Everytime you would touch one of the battery terminals with the wires it would begin to melt. Problem? The alternator was bad, got that replaced, they gave me the wrong one somehow I was stupid enough not to notice. Got that replaced, no terminals melting so I fired it up again, finished the break in only to realize I had been running on 3-4 cylinders this entire time. The problem? The rotor under the distributor had bent and broke, and caused damage to the cap, and would only fire certain cylinders. Got a new rotor, cap and wires and ba bam! Not another problem? No, I didn't have another problem thank god! At that point I was close to losing my sanity, after the new cap, rotor and wires she fired up and purred like a cat. Greatest feeling in the world, got the timing set and it idled perfect @ 500 RPM. A day after that (which brings us to the day of this post) I changed out the oil and the filter to get rid of any crap/metal the breakin may have produced and took her for a test drive. Keep in mind, the transmission had a horrible grinding in 2nd gear, and whining in 3rd before it was rebuilt so I was praying for the best. Well, we started it up and took it down the driveway out onto the road.. First...sounds good....second, wow that sounds amazing...third.... good too..
We took it out without a hood, grille, any bumpers or tag lol. Realized that after we got back.

Keep in mind I'm 17, I rebuilt the motor using a book, and all of the folks here at the site, and credit of course to the machine shop that did the machine work. I did it myself, with ya'lls advice and a Haynes manual haha. First time I'd EVER taken on something like this, and I had never seen it done nor helped anyone do it.

So, until future problems occur thanks for everyones help and pictures/video's should be up within the week. Thanks!

Re: Project '67 GMC "AO" (All Original)

Proud of ya bud!!!!! Not many guys your age have that drive or discipline these days. I am doing the same thing minus the paint and body. Mine is in good shape for now. I have the same engine but I'm putting Clifford Performance intake and shorty headers. I really like your idea of keeping it all original. But I did add power brakes. Can't wait to see your updates......

Re: Project '67 GMC "AO" (All Original)

This is only my hobby, alot of people misunderstand it, and when I tell people about it they are surprised. I guess they don't believe I fit the stereotype. I keep all A's & B's in school never made a C or lower, even in my AP Classes (College Level). I have my plan for college, taking the harder AP classes are part of it., either GT or UGA either mechanical engineering or some form of business. Possibly something in the medical field so I could keep up my the car building lol.

Great build and great story. I appreciate our younger men and women who have the drive to get an education and better themselves. Says a lot about your character. Keep up the great work!
