Re: 63 suburban newbie build first day

All '63-'66 trucks, Suburbans, and Panels used the same motor mount brackets for the small blocks and the 230/250 I6. The 292 I6 used one long and one short, so be aware of that. If you can't find a set of originals, let me know, I have several sets.

Would that work?

How would I be able to tell if its was a 292? As far as one long and one short..Is the size difference easy to see? Thanks..And sorry for all the questions!

Re: 63 suburban newbie build first day

Ok so I just did some research and I got an answer from one of your old posts. Thanks for all the help boss . You the man !!!!

For those that run into mounting problems like I did. How you tell them apart is
63-66 v8 and some v6 mount on the rear two holes of the frame.( 230,250,283
67-72 perches bolt on the front 2 holes for v8 applications. V6 applications I think are on the back holes for 67-72.
Note:On some 63-66 trucks came with 292. You can tell they are 292 perches because the passenger one sits on the front 2 holes and the driver side perch bolts up on the rear holes.

Re: 63 suburban newbie build first day

Ok so I wanna start on my engine wiring today. Electrical is not my specialty. I only see one harness coming from the firewall plug, Not sure if all the wires I need are there. I came across some colored wiring diagrams on here for 60-66 trucks. Not sure if they would work for my 63 suburban? Also I have a new used hei accel distributor that I picked up for 35 bucks on craigslist. Not sure on the firing order or which wire is what at the cap. Here are a few pics of the harness..Thanks.

Update: so I just got the cap wires wired.. Came across a fellow board members post.. But I still have no idea on that harness...Thanks

Re: 63 suburban newbie build first day

So I went to the j yard and scored big time..picked up an ecel dizzy with new cap and wires...also came up on a weber 600 cfm carb and billet spacer with hardware...installed right in after adding new gaskets..Also just finished the power steering...just need new hoses..I used a gearbox with pump off of a 77 c10...I also used the cpp kit that comes with the bracket for the weak 60-66 frames..Easy install....Now I need the wiring but its seems so over my head..It all looks the same...If anybody can chime in on the wiring. I have looked at the diagrams on here but again it all looks the same. Thanks

Re: 63 suburban newbie build first day

Hello chevy trucks, been a while since I have got anything done on my struck since its too cold for my comfort in So Cal. Today I finally got all the electrical done.. I dropped the first dude helpin me like a bad habit cuz he seemed like a tweaker and wanted cash asap... He made no progress therefore he had to go.. luckily he only ripped me off for a 100 bucks. I found a new guy name Sal on craigslist and this guy worked out great . He knows his stuff...he finished in about 6 hours..everything works like new.. I am ordering my drive shaft from Drive lines manana..Hoping to get her moving by mid week... The only problem I have now is that the truck wont stay on unless I give it some gas( press on the pedal a bit) it starts right up but dies soon after....I am running an electric pump right at the tank...(autozone) and the carb is a weber 600 not sure on the model.. I am it can be the choke (electric) but it looks like its in the right position...My gas pressure seems low though at about 3 psi..Not sure if it has air in the line or what ..I also made sure to blow out the hard line before I did the tank ...Any ideas? please help Thanks

Re: 63 suburban newbie build first day

Update: So finally some life!!!! Took out the 63 burb on the road today...After 25 or so years of rotting away neglected and lonely...I finally buttoned up all the mechanical and electrical issues and set her free on the road ..She did pretty good...she sucks up gas like its the last drop on earth.about 5 gallons to be exact on a 10 mile run...Ran very well though ,got here up to about 55 mph on the freeway. I can finally paint the front clip and and repair the dent on the passenger door that my 3 year old did with a shovel.Lol. I plan on taking it to get paint and body and maybe if their is some funds left to bag her up with a 4 link....Here are some pics....Thanks to all yall shes back on the road! Oh yeah and my creditors
