Re: Lowrie's 69 Shop Truck

Thanks to everyone for the kind words! Progress has been a little slow the past 2 weeks with a newborn at home and last weekend I took a road trip up to Chicago/Wisconsin, I haven't had much shop time. Trip last weekend was pretty cool, me and some buddies attended a metal working class put on by Baileigh Industrial, just south of Green Bay Wisconsin. On the way up, we stopped by Rad Rides/Troy Trepanier's shop and picked up a couple of chassis at the Roadster Shop. Troy's work is always impressive to see, but the operation at the Roadster Shop was absolutely insane. I've never seen so many full builds going on in a single shop..

Rad Rides- Blowfish
I saw this run at Bonneville 2 years ago, Awesome!

Rad Rides- Vette
Saw this at SEMA this year. Pretty subtle, but classy..

Baileigh power/yoder hammer.
This is what we spent most of the day on.

Re: Lowrie's 69 Shop Truck

This week I installed the rear shocks and fabricated the front shock mounts.

3/16" mild steel cut and tacked.

Fully welded and ground.

Re: Lowrie's 69 Shop Truck

Today I installed the front shock brackets and shocks.

Also, put it on the ground and took it out for it's maiden voyage. Everything went well, a little breezy without a windshield and rear glass.

Hosed it down, first wash..

I also pulled out all the bed wood and put the bed on so I can fabricate the fuel filler, it's going in the rear marker light/reflector.

Re: Lowrie's 69 Shop Truck

Sweet build! I thought about mounting my valve manifold and tank inside the cab. Are you aware of any down side to mounting them inside? I mounted my valves on the far rear of my truck and the tank under the bed in front of the rear tire. I don't care much for where I put the tank. I'm still debating on moving it all to the cab.

Sorry for the late response, I've been away for a while. The only down side for me is that it makes it difficult to get to, but if you use quality parts you probably won't need to get to it very often. Make sure you run a line from the exhaust port of your valve block to the outside of the cab, it will cut down on noise and not spray any moisture that may be in the tank.

Re: Lowrie's 69 Shop Truck

So, I have not updated this in a while, but work has continued and the truck is almost finished. Back in March, I got it almost complete minus bed wood and a few other things. I took it down to the Dallas Goodguys show and put it in the swap meet area to see if there was any interested buyers. Shortly after unloading it off the trailer, I got a hit and it sold, but the new owner wanted me to finish up everything on it before he took delivery. So, I brought it back home and it sat in the shop for about month until I got another car finished ('60 Belair 2dr hrdtp) until I got back on it. He plans to take it on the Power Tour in a month.

I was trying to decide on whether to run the wheel covers or not.

I decided to run them..

Re: Lowrie's 69 Shop Truck

Once I started back working on it, I had to run down some gauge issues which ended up needing a new printed circuit board. Also did some work on the tailgate, one of the previous owners decided to try their hand at some body work. It was pretty rough so before Dallas I had sanded all of the filler out of it and down to bare metal.

It had some holes in the top of the tailgate where someone tried to pull a dent out.

Welded up the holes.

It had some black primer already poking through the weathered paint, so I decided to shoot the bare metal black and try to blend the edges.

Re: Lowrie's 69 Shop Truck

Not quite sure if I like it yet, my other option was to shoot the bare metal with a satin clear. If it doesn't grow on me in a few days, I'll sand it down and go this route..

Also, started to fabricate the fuel filler that will be located behind the rear driver side marker lens. Fuel filler welded up.

Re: Lowrie's 69 Shop Truck

Matt, as everyone has mentioned you are doing a fantastic job on this truck. Something was telling me to get to the swap meet early Saturday at Goodguys and I am glad I did. I was there specifically to buy a truck like yours and I am so glad I will be the lucky owner when you complete it!

This will be the third truck I have purchased from board members over the last 7 years. First one was Hart Rods 1950 project, then Nick Davis 67 SWB which I still have and I am patiently awaiting the arrival of this beauty.

The quality of work was what lead me to the decision to buy your truck and I can say to anyone who has not seen Matt's work that he does an incredible job.

See you soon I hope!
