Re: 66 SPID sticker language - share and learn!
Here's the documents from my 66 C10, finally got the build sheet out of the back of the seat, protectoplate and found a picture of it with a pop up style camper. Truck was used for hunting in Utah I believe.

Re: 66 SPID sticker language - share and learn!
No such luck! I bought the books to put in my glove compartment. Along with the GM Tool Kit. I thought the books came in a plastic envelope?
Interesting paper envelope, is it litho in 1962? I did however get a Registration from Penn Valley California and a pair of Black Plates. Strange place for the Dinsmore Compass, I put mine above the rear view mirror.

I purchased some 1966 dealer invoices. When I receive them, I'll scan and share them with you. Maybe we can break some of the codes.

Re: 66 SPID sticker language - share and learn!
Photobucket just changed their entire site. Used to be able to post multiple pictures all at once, now can only do one at a time. Anyone else using the new photobucket ??

I just switched to it the other day and changed my avatar but haven't tried posting multiple pics since then. Is it not letting you copy more than one image tag or what?

I purchased some 1966 Truck Dealer Invoices. Scanned and sharing for those trying to break the code.
I also purchased some 1963 Truck dealer invoices. These have a single letter after the RPO. I've been working on those because in my world there's only 63! lol

Re: 66 SPID sticker language - share and learn!
I spent 5 hours going through the one's from 63. What emerges from the codes is the size of the truck 14/ 15/25/36 series has significance. What motor was ordered. Standard or Auto. Clutch. Color Combinations. Heaters, even found three different codes for the Radio...
For the radio's I thought of the differences, when there was one radio available. There were different motors requiring different brackets for the condensers and ground straps for a V8 compared to the inlines. This, I'm assuming. The more your willing to share the info on yours or your buddys truck , the closer the accuracy of breaking the code.

Re: 66 SPID sticker language - share and learn!
I see a lot of RPOs that were still in use during the '73-87 era (and today, for that matter):
C42 - heater G50 - HD springs M20 - trans P13 - side mounted spare tire carrier G80 - posi for example. K

Different brackets and/or ground straps within the same family of radio would drive a different unique part number but would be below the "product planning" level of detail and therefore would not drive a unique RPO. At least that's how it is structured today. K

Re: 66 SPID sticker language - share and learn!
There was a single Manual Radio Option for the truck in 63, RPO U60, yet I have 3 different ECL codes for the radio. Could they have carried over the Tube type radio's from 62 until they ran out, then installed the new 63 transistor type radio's? Also notice different Condensor part numbers for different Alternator optioned.
Engineering Parts List Release was a reference to the individual parts required to add the option to the vehicule. U60TH 6 trucks 1434 or 1534 with 230 or 292 U60TK 1- 1534 with 283 U60XX 1-2504 with 292 1966 Radio Codes. Was there more than one Radio Option in 1966, or just a Manual Radio? U60AA 1- 1434 with 250 U60AB 1- 25?4 with 292 U60AC 1- 25?4 with 292 U60BC 3- 15?4 with 283 U60BA 8- 15?4 14?4 with 283/ 327 WE need a lot more build sheets to confirm the findings.

Re: 66 SPID sticker language - share and learn!
I know this is an old subject, but I bought a 1966 k-10 truck without an engine.
I found the rpo codes behind the seat but the important part was missing. I know it had a V-8. What are the odds it came with a 327 in a 4x4. Can you maybe tell by the rear end gears. Maybe someone can figure it out. Here are the pics. Thanks, Dave... |

Re: 66 SPID sticker language - share and learn!
Bad4wd,
I'm pretty much a newbie to this site and to these trucks, but take a look at page 13 (Standard equipment) and page 14 (Optional Equipment) of your trucks vehicle information kit at the following site (Pick "Chevrolet Trucks (All Models Not Listed Below)" and 1966): https://gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heri...tion-kits.html Pretty much confirms that for a 1966 K10, the only V-8 was a 283. Also the 1966 owners guide confirms this in a couple of tables (Engine and Cooling System). Hope this helps. |

Re: 66 SPID sticker language - share and learn!
There is a lot more to ECL codes than you would think. Just as an example, the 1966 Full Size Car had 18 different ECL codes for the U60 radio option. Some options have in excess of 100 ECL codes on cars.
If you want to educate yourselves on the complexities of ECL codes pick up a copy of Nolan Adams, The Complete Corvette Restoration Guide Vol II: 1963-1967. He lists each ECL code for every option with a usage column that explains the idiosyncrasies of each one. Yes, this is for Corvettes but it opens up your eyes to the trigger mechanisms that help differentiate the multitude of ECL codes for each option. Expensive book but a great education. Paul Winvoices.com Here's just 1 link to the name of the book: The Complete Corvette Restoration and Technical... |
