Re : 'C' Notching
Welders are cheap , go to the local Police Impond yard , they'll sell them separately from the impounded trucks .
Back to your mock up : isn't it stronger to radius the joints ? . In the field I always see frames broken where there are 90° corners , welded or not . Just thinking here , I'm a Mechanic , not a Welder .

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
/im gonna do alot more support bracing once I begin the install. It will have gussets and support plates welded at each joint. I wont half arz anything. I do understand what you mean. Ive been welding for 15 yrs and always over think and do everything. My mock up is very minimal, But the finished product will be much heavier duty... Im still not sold on my Notches. I made them and still want to redesign them.... lol. Hince the lengthy build process. I over think and annylize everything. Some times to much.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Looking good man. I just finished the rear portion of my frame this weekend. Sanded painted and put all new rear suspension in. Im not doing an extreme drop on mine like you but I understand the pride of doing it all yourself. Keep up the good work and pushing forward.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Thankz Tazman. I was not happy with the 2nd set of notches I made so I redesigned them again..... lol. I know. Make up your mind already. This time I built them with inner gussets plug welded in place. And the outside is braced also. Made from 2in. x 5in. x 3/8 thick tube. I believe that these are much stronger and will hold up to any abuse I will dish out. Ill post some pics tonight when I get home.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Ok I finished the bolt in/weld, Deep notches. Wasnt sure how tall they needed to be so I gave my self 11 in... Shoud be more than enough. I'll be putting them in this weekend, but till then here is the pics of my finished notches minus the bag mounts.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Update from yesterday, before the rain set in.... Grr....
Anyway, I got my cab off the frame and found that it is pretty solid with the exception of the floor pans next to the doors (which I forgot to get a picture of.) And the frame looks in great shape. I removed a few unused brackets and got a real good look at the PO's handy work on the Motor stands, which were wrong in the first place. But I have the correct ones to replace them. I also got the hook up on some freebie Air tanks! Woot, one 8 gal. and a 5 gal. Not sure where or which one I'll use but I got them.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Thanx ;
That's what I thought but wasn't really certain .. So many local Hot Rodders tell me they'd kill for one of these and I see them all the time in the local Pick-A-Part junkyards for $200 fan to flywheel , including the carbys ~ as they're usually late 1970's vintage ' Square Bodies ' I assume they have wretched smog cams that need replacing to get the real power I remember from BBC's back in the 1960's . Sadly , I've tried telling folks exactly where they are and no one has ever ponied up yet . I'm off looking in junked trucks for a 292 I6 right now . Easier to find good running 454's , that's amazing .

They are hard to find here. And expensive if you find one to rebuild. But WELL worth it. I love mine.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Well I took the dive and cut the frame for my notches. a little unconventional but my way none the less. The rear frame is a little crocked untill I can get it on flat ground and weld it together. its only bolted up right now, So I can do some adjusting.
Let me know what ya think and be honest... as you can see I have springs just set in above the axle as a simulation of the bag ride height.
