I picked up a really sweet 72 swb from a trade. 454 BB/ 400turbo/ no clue whats in the rear end. Setting on 17"s that are garbage but will work for the time being. I got anot of awesome extras with the truck too. Here are a few pics of when I got my "Storm"

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Theres a little rust in the floor pans and some work to be done to the suspension. Which im planning on baggin it and layin frame, so no biggie there. Ive been working with the motor some trying to work out the kinks I've run into that are keeping it from running. First off I had a bad Carb, Fuel pump was wrong (pumping 14psi to the carb.) Spark plugs and wires were horrible, and it needed a new rotor button and cap for the HEI dist. Got all of that fixed except the carb... Waiting on funds$$$
So I started working with what I have. Metal work is what I love! Im gonna start tomorrow with tearing the front suspension off and fixing the broken shock mounts then work my way back to the rear and make some new shock mounts to suffice till I get another frame built to dig earth with. This is after I started working on the 454 Not really diggin the Black grill, Figured I'd put it on till I got the other polished to perfection

Ok I did Change the steering wheel first off and gave my son that ricer wheel.
And I started with a few small things in the interior like the glove box and the ash try... I know, "What is he thinking?" I'm scatter brained as hell. Cleaned up and ready to paint Blam it looks better

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
I made some c-notches today and started to sand and primer the dash. Having problems removing the light knob.... cant figure out how it comes off... Grrrr.
Also found out the main issue with my truck moving. Rust and trash in the tank. Clogged up carb. Fun Fun. Now to save for the tank cleaning kit and sealer. then a Rebuild kit for the carb. YAY!

Reach up behind the dash to the light switch.Feel around and you'll find a button.Push the button in and pull the knob out.The shaft will come with it.Disconnect the battery orthe lights will be on and the batt will run down.Looks like a fun project and you're making great progress.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Well today I put my dash back together to see how it would look with a grey back ground. Its lookin pretty sweet, but.... I saw a truck today that may have changed my interior directions. Still doing grey and black but An addition of more red is very appealing.
What ya think? Red?

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Well its been one heck of a week. I did however make some new deep notches and the brace that will go between them that will also become where my new relocated (again) rear shock mounts will be located.
And I started sanding getting rdy to paint. Oh huge update... FREE PAINT! Dupont Flat Black! Im lovin it! Wait where did the red come from?.... Some one is color blind.... Also as soon as my new bank card comes in Ill be getting a sweet set of headers from one of our very own, Thanks to Fred @ Specialtyretail Cause mine just ain't doin it.... Hangs to low.... I WANNA LAY FRAME!

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
And away you go !.
Looks like you made a good start . Looking at your 'C' notches , will you retain that cross brace after they're welded in ? .

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Yes The cross brace will stay. it will be where i mount my new shock mounts once it is installed. Ill have to be creative and make some crazy @#$%. you know how it goes. I gotta get my tank cleaned and sealed then rebuild my carb, then its roll time. Paint and new deep C noches.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb
Sounds good ~
I assume the cross brace is to keep things aligned as you're driving ? frame flex is a serious problem when you're cornering fast and that beastly big engine is going to put it to the test . For cheap and easy fuel tank cleaning , go to the Big Box Hwe. Store and look in the flooring dept. for " Jasco Metal Etch " in pint or quart bottles , you'll need about one quart , it's just Phosphoric Acid , you dilute it with 3 gallons of distilled water , pour it in the tank along with all the old nuts & washers you can find , I use BB's , then cap it and shake the bejeebers out of it until your arms fall off then shake it some more , it'll take time but it'll eat ALL the rust away and not damage the good metal . After a few hours of shaking , pour it all out into a clean plastic pan and marvel at the accumulated crud , rust flakes and so on , strain it through some clean felt (Thrift Store) and put it back in , shake it some more , curse my name out loud but don't quit , after you've done this shake , drain & strain , re fill and repeat a few times , your tank will be as clean as it was in 1967 , no foolin' . Phosphoric Acid is also the primary ingredient in " Sno-Bol " toilet cleaner @ Wall Mart . DO NOT let any idiot talk you into using Muriatic Acid ! that's BAD STUFF and it will eat the good metal plus blind you if it gets the chance , Phosphoric Acid cannot hurt you . Best of all , it's CHEAP and re - usable too ! . I keep a few plastic milk jugs of it handy for general cleanup of old metal things, rocker boxes and so on .

As far as cross bracing. I will be adding more, Im removing the exsisting ones but they will be replaced with my own home made ones.
