Yesterday when I was block sanding the fenders and doors, I found some scratches and a few ripples. So last night I re-primered everybody. I'll final block today and be ready to shoot tonight or tomorrow.

If anybody is wondering, normally you couldn't get away with painting each part separately, but since this color has no metallic and is so plain, and a lot of it is white which hides well, I should be fine on matching.

I know whe I painted mine I got all the body work done, took it all apart to paint the interior of the cab and jamb everything and then put it all together and then painted the outside of the body. It is a lot of paint.

Hey, I totally understand. I have used Nason single stage for cheap pJs for years. I usually go with the uerethane enamel, it's bullet proof for the most part. It sands and buffs nice too when you get the signature marks. The acrylic works good too, but I usually don't do panels like you are doing. So I have issues of dry spots or overspray with it. You have the right idea. Nice work!

I guess it would be ok to divulge this information - I have a patent on it, so don't get any ideas.
I used to build furniture as a hobby and this was my dust filter/air cleaner. It used to hang from the ceiling and clear the air of sawdust. I stuck it under my garage door, filled the rest of the open door part with plywood and stuck a flex duct to the outlet. It draws in filtered air from outside,pumps through the duct to the far side of my "booth" and pressurizes the booth with fresh clean air. The pressure of course forces the air and fumes out over the top of the open garage door. It has 3 speeds, but really clears well on low. I'll stir up less dirt on low, so that's what I do. I have the top of the door draped in plastic so the fumes don't end up painting my door for me on their way out.

Painting a little at a time is so low stress and helps me feel good about checking things off the list. If I have a setup problem, I only have to fix a few panels. When I get a run, it is limited because I am only painting a little. I don't wig out over 1 run. Painting an entire car and I get 7 runs, then I am frustrated and swear I'll never paint again (ask me how I know). Plus this thing is a Monster, I couldn't paint it all at once if I wanted to - They don't make poly booths that big!

Very creative, I like it! So since you push air in rather than pull it out you don't need the expensive explosion-proof fan. Do you ever have any issues getting the "fog" up and over the door since it's natural tendency is to sink?

No explosion proof needed in this setup! No problem at all about fumes sinking. A little air bleeds out at the duct connection on purpose to stir things up at ground level slightly. Don't want to put too much air down low because you run the risk of blowing up dust off the floor, but that seems to be all it needs.

In the body shop I worked in we had the fresh air coming in up high and the exhaust was pushed out down low on the opposite side of the booth. Since the fumes tend to sink it worked very well this way. You could easily duct your outlet air under the door instead of over the top and make your booth more efficient and improve visibility with this switch.

Before we painted anything we wet down the floor of the booth and the CMU block walls then brought the parts or vehicle in and sprayed them. It really helped keep the dust down. This might help your booth work better too.

looks great, nice "booth" too! downdraft is more efficient. i would pump my air duct to the ceiling. then unblock the bottom of the garage door. also a screen is a must if you do any night painting. stupid bugs love the sweet smell of the paint. and the light reflectivity of it too.

It was a very small shop on the north side called D&L Motors. They have been out of business since the owners wife died a decade ago or so. He bought and repaired wrecked newer trucks primarily and didn't take much work outside of his own. Mostly just family & friends jobs, nothing off the street.

Here is what I am up against and a good opportunity to explain a guide coat. I have some ripples at the bottom edge of my doors. I suspect most doors came this way since they are both so consistent. I have been sanding long strokes in a cross pattern and longways front to rear with my long block. The divots that are low don't get sanded because my block is pretty stiff and it glides right over the top of them. To help me see them I have sprayed a fine mist of black paint, a guide coat. Now when I sand down the high spots, the low divots that need filling show up very easily as black spots. Time to lay in some thick primer and do it all over again.

would a glazing putty work better in your low spots and then primer???

A trick I use on the giude coat is lacquer spray can. It sprays very thin and light so it gets a little in all the lows, pinholes, and such. Is cheaper than 3M dust and designated spray guide coats.

Love the build
