Thanks it always a bit of a crap shoot but I am very stoked on how the two colors look next to each other in combination of the gloss and satin finishes.

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

So I have been working from home for the last few weeks so one would think lots of garage time. Its been just the opposite. When the economy is bad our company gets very busy. We are a flexible printer for consumable packaging.

Here are some recent progress...I installed the Altman easy latches. I realized that the striker plate will take some modifications as my doors are 47-50 but my body is a 53. The bad part is the striker plates were already painted....

I also took some new chrome door handles and gave them a satin finish. I love how they turned out. I think it goes with the over all theme better. After seeing how well the door handles turned out I plan to treat all of my chrome to this satin finish....more to come.

Stay safe/healthy out there......

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

Got a little more done on Friday and Saturday. I modified one of the striker plates from my Altman easy latch kit.The other side should go quicker. Once modified, I will repaint them. I created a small bracket for the throttle cable. Happy with how it turned out. I threw on my air cleaner to see what the finished product will look like. Waiting on some fuel rail brackets that should show next week then I can finalize my fuel supply all the way up the the throttle body.

On Friday I got my injectors back from being cleaned and the screens and O-rings changed. I learned the hard way on my 48 that injectors get gummed up when sitting. This can complicate the trouble shooting process on the first start up. They provide you with readouts of before and after too see how the injectors are working. I had one that was not working at all but after several back flushes they got it firing. So that was $$ well spent.

Lastly on Saturday my sound deadening material showed up so I got busy installing that.....

tomorrow I will sand blast and rebuild one door hinge

Thanks, yes scotchbrite with a little penetrating oil applied to the pad. The place is in Michigan (my same state) so I choose Performance Fuel Injection Systems out of Elsie, MI. it cost $96.00 + shipping one way. There's a bunch of places on eBay that offer this service. It was $12.00 per injector. Besides the injector readout they also supply a little baggie with all of the stuff they replaced. It provides a nice visual of how junked up some of the screens really were.

Seriously nice work though.

Scott...yes I am..ha ha. I'm always happy to create more work for others...I will probably go up higher on the firewall but I need to add some metal to hang the wiring panel from and I my gas pedal mount. I started with full sheets then filled in the open areas and took time to trim to fit. It was not bad at all.

Thanks
Marc

Yes I plan to but I might use a different product with more insulating properties. More research is needed on what I'll buy.

Thanks

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

Last night I worked on mounting my ECU under the seat. I had to notch thhe edge of the seat opening slightly to allow the computer to slid back some....I cut a 2.25" pass thru hole for the rubber grommet. I also used these simple ECU mounts that grab the ECU on the sides. To fasten these to the floor, I used nut zirts that I think are slick. Also while I was at it I needed to get a sneak peak of my gauges....I still need to make a small bracket to mount a small fuse panel from the LS (BP Automotive) wiring harness.

Thanks
Marc

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

are those the coyote swap 5" DD gauges? I noticed those a couple months ago and I like how they fit the hole. the 47-53 DD gauges use an adapter ring and for expensive gauges I just think thats... low effort?

if so, thanks for showing me what they look like!

These are just the HDX gauges by DD for AD trucks....Nothing special just expensive but they are expandable. I added an ambient temp sensor.

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

ahh the ring looked different. the stock appearing ad DD stuff is nice but why couldnt they make it fit?

this is the coyote swap set I looked at.

fit a 5" hole but from the front, which is nice when you have a lot of stuff in the dash like I do.

you will have to tell me how you like them!

I'm not sure what doesn't fit. On mine, yes you have to install from the back side but they fit the holes opening fine. They fit just like the last set of all digital DD I ran in my 48 truck..To me the lip on the Coyote swap as you are referring to them. The lip looks too big and seems like it would look out of place. Not to mention how would you secure them to the dash since they would not use the stock mounting locations.

I will let you know

Marc

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"

I picked up my painted seats from the painter. One (middle) had a sizable run in the clear so I took it back to be fixed. I think the white seats frames in gloss with offer some nice contrast to interior. I also installed a Newport Engineering wiper motor. Moving forward.

Marc, how did the install of the Newport engineering wiper motor go? Do you think it's worth the money? Will you be retrofitting the factory knob onto the switch?

It was pretty straight forward. I did extend the lower brace to reach a factory hole in a factory bracket under the dash. I also clearance the housing some as it hit the linkage of the fresh air vent. Mine was moved slightly. My dash is modified since I cut the bottom of the dash flat to later add a lower dash panel to I don't know if those changes are due to my other dash changes. I didn't mount the switch yet but it wont be in the stock location as I filled that hole. Goes with my less is more design beliefs. I will probably hide it under my lower dash panel. I have an idea. I plan to drive mine a lot so I wanted good wipers in case I get into some heavy rain...

I can grab some pics if you like.

You've got it. I'm waiting on a cowl vent seal then I'm going to reassemble everything and get the vent working smoothly (to make sure no other modification are needed)....
