Kept in the garage or outside...,How is the finish on your bed wood holding up ? Thats the best looking finish I have seen !

Bought the wood at HomeDepot 8"x10'x1" (9), 2" lagbolts w/washers (pine is softer and needs the washers, stain and Helmspar varnish. Cut the boards to 97", I drilled new holes after getting the frame boards in (4" lagbolts).
It took me about 3 days of work, I won't win any shows, but I'm happy with it for sure. Less than $200.

Was it pretty straight forward, or did you have to make any modifications to the width, welding etc?

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

What are all you guys with stained beds doing with your good old black bed boards? I'd love to find a few nice, factory black board to replace some of mine that are broken. Anybody save their factory (long/fleet) boards?

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

Regular automotive clear coat with a little buffing. We shot the boards all the way around, using cheap clear on the bottom, and a little higher priced stuff with uv protection on top.

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

This is what I did.
Maple with purple hart inlay with a walnut boarder .
The finish is clear coat.
These winter I'm going to remove the boards and add another coat or two of clear because the grain sucked in the clear in some area's.
