Re: Buried to Bagged 1972 2wd

Another weekend and got a little done!! I completed the front of the windsheild drip rail and it's ready for body work, the back is a different story. Found a few spots that will need some attention due to rust but overall I am still happy with the condition of this old Blazer. My brilliant idea Friday to build a body dolly went full circle and actually made it happen!! Came out pretty good, may be a little high so some tweeks will need to be made. I was really concerned about the front being so heavy that it might bend the body but after taking precautions it didn't budge!

seeing your 2wd blazer makes me hesitate to take the first step in my motor swap thinking what if I find a blazer to drop this into instead! . Then I look online see the high price per pound of rust that carries a blazer nameplate or that weird dual drives shaft thing I believe they call 4x4, I just sign off the computer and cry.

Are you still at that same shop I visited? Maybe I could stop by again one dsy and learn some more.

I'll post anything I learn to better everyone on here! There are a few threads on the subject of swap, but nothin beats good ole trial and error. And yes, we are at the same place where I built Slick and you are more than welcome to swing by!

I was pretty happy with the tub too. I suppose 2wd Blazers did better over the years than most 4X4s. Sure am glad you jumped on board with the build!!

I'll take peekchures of them for you tonight per your request. I went through them last night and everything is there from what I can tell. Quality stuff for sure! Welds look great, packaging is decent and I got a couple of elusive PB stickers!!

And the little bitty c-notch!! For you Blazer guys the bumpstop rear rivet hole is where the back of the notch should line up so the body mount in the front will need to go bye-bye!!!!

Re: Buried to Bagged 1972 2wd

While I was still drooling on my new parts the frame was begging to be torn apart so I could get these Porterbuilt parts fitted. The frame was not cooperative to say the least. I have a whole new respect for you Blazer guys. The gas tank had to be pulled, rivets had to be man-handled, and plugs had to be cut to fill in some holes so I can clean the frame up. What I didn't show is a clean frame with a little primer on it. Hopefully this is enough peekshures to keep everyone happy for a few days!!!

No problem!! Stop by anytime, and yes the shine is getting bigger. Next time you swing by have a little more time! I have a little something to share with everyone who is trying to figure out the front DM, maybe it will help someone.

Re: Buried to Bagged 1972 2wd

WooHoooo!!! Another weekend to spend with my new project. It's always nice having new parts to put on. Got the rear notches in, the front cross member installed and all the holes drilled for the trailing arm cross member. Sounds like a little to accomplish in a weekend but trust me, it is a lot!!

Trailing arms on an extreme drop? Delmo tried this and decided to go with a 4-link on Mason Wrights "Larry", has PBFab made any changes since then?

Buck,... I'm not sure if there is a difference,... but Larry was an original 4x4 chassis.
I thought they had straight rear frame rails as opposed to the factory 2wd blazer's coil spring rear frame rails, that kick out like the coil spring trucks.

You may be correct Keith, using trailing arms will be much more simple with no 4-link brackets to weld on the axle tubes.

Re: Buried to Bagged 1972 2wd

After talking with Nate via e-mail he mentioned nothing about a different setup for the Blazer, and as of now it looks like everything will work. I guess everyone will have to "stay tuned" in for next weeks updates to see the outcome of the "The Trailing Arm Saga". If you are looking for a easy way to get your PBFab parts, and in a package deal, look no further than Travis at Pro Performance. He has been instrumental in getting me what I need and in a descent time frame according to other distributers from what I hear.

Re: Buried to Bagged 1972 2wd

Not much got accomplished this weekend, a wedding and mothers day kinda ate the whole weekend up. Although I did get the LCAs and UCAs on! I got heim-joints with everything I ordered but there was a problem with the left hand threads not working with the right hand threads on trailing arms. The ID on the heims were kinda not right either. The bigger ID heims should be right hand thread for the trailing arms and smaller ID heims should be for the tie rods. Well that's not confusing at all!!!

Re: Buried to Bagged 1972 2wd

Got off the phone with Travis at Pro Performance, seems I was missing a couple of things. My Porterbuilt panhard bar was left out of my order and my lower shock mount crossmember for the rear was left out plus 2 other heim joints. Looks like I will be waiting again........
