Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
Ok so I it's Friday and I have neglected working on the truck and have been feeling guilty. So I gave myself the day off and dove in to finish the wheel well. The pictures are self explanatory and I am ready to call it quits for the night so ask any questions you like and I will answer them later. Over and out and I mean out like a lite.

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
How hard is it to do that? I thought about that but was never sure how it would work. That is real nice work how do you make the metal to fit so good? I am going to keep this build to watch for sure.

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
looks good man. So is the final shots plan B? from the pics it looks like you fabbed up the strips, but then decided to do it a different way after you trimmed off the mounting holes on the original. Is that right? Or are the final pics just with the remaining lip beat down onto the new metal?
either way, looks great man. I think your approach is a doable one and I'm probably going to do it in a similar fashion. Unfortunately I started in on a new project, so inners in the '69 are getting put on the back burner until June at least. |

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
I placed the wheel well in the opening bolting it in place in a couple location points. The metal pieces made from the patterns were checked for fit then I tacked them into position. By leaving the original flange of the wheel well in place it keeps the part stable. After tacking and fitting I removed the wheel well out of the fender and cut off the original bolting flange. I dollied the small lip that was left flat to the new flange and tacked it from that side also. Once this was finished I reinstalled the inner fender and marked the new bolt holes for smaller sized bolts with a rounded allen head for the cleaner look. The under side will get bed liner coating and the top will get bodyworked and painted. Hope this helps any questions let me know.

I thought I would drop these latest progress pics of the wheel well modification. Both sides will be finished soon. Hope this isn't repetitive and i will get these finished soon so I can move on to some new project and get fresh pictures of the build. Thanks for checking in.

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
Thanks for the comment. I will be glad when these are done so I can move back to finishing the custom hinges i started. Once I get the hood back on I have a day or so of final body prep and the body work is finished. My plans from here are to setup the brakes and wheels and install the electric brake system. Then the body comes off and the chassis gets completely worked out with boxing and smoothing then off to the powder coater it goes. I can't wait for that.

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
awesome job on those wheel wells, those things are going to look really slick painte, im definetly going to have to steal some of your ideals on the inner fenders to get that slick smooth look. keep up the great work and looking forward to seeing the work that you do on the chassis.
