Re: 66 slammed hearse
Pics as promised, just for you Joe. I got alot done today. Changed the grille, heater controls (and broke the new one in the same place as the one it replaced) rewired the wipers, now they work, put it an original radio just to fill the hole (I just couldnt bring myself to cut the dash), Hooked up the tach, bolted the seat down, cleaned up all the wiring under the dash and fixed a bunch of fires waiting to happen, installed new hid headlights that are going to need some relays(Josh, I need some Bosch relays buddy)(inside joke),installed the new key switch finally. I dont think the lil 6 bangers going to last long, it just dont feel right, and I think the powerglide is going to get changed out as well. Hello sbc and 700r4. I didnt want to do it, but its got to happen. The poor little 6 is just screaming at 55-60 and I dont want to blow it up. 2 speeds is just not enough gears to unwind the 6 popper, and I dont want to runn her to hard. She is going in for paint in a couple of weeks, nothing fancy, just black primer to make it a solid color. more next weekend.....

Re: 66 slammed hearse
Lookin' good kd....you've been busy!
Ya know, you've probably got 3.73 gears in the rear end......a set of 3.08's would probably help out on the highway driving. Just a thought......cheaper than a engine & trans right now.

Re: 66 slammed hearse
thats funny you bring that up Jon, I just scored a dual carb intake and had the same idea. Good thinking dude! Anyway, the update is that I got the new signal switch in today, Boring I know, but I have a right turn signal and brake light. Still nothing on the left, only a tail light. Anyone got any ideas? I have a left turn sig on the front, no rear brake or sig. i have torn it down and checked and rechecked, I cant find a reason. Help!

Re: 66 slammed hearse
Ok these brakes are really starting to grind me the wrong way. I havent drove her for a week and I get in to take her home and looky there, the pedal goes clear to the floor. It will stop, but you got to really want it. No leaks, master is as full as it could be, I'm at a loss here? any ideas? I am going to replace the rear shoes this weekend, but they dont look to bad compared to the new ones. The front pads are about 85% or more. More bleeding? I used a pressure bleeder and got clean fluid to all 4 corners. I dont know anything else to do. HELP! Oh, and I still cant figure out my left turn signal problem. I got it at the switch and the fire wall, but not the tail. Its all new and shows no sign of damage. I have checked for bad grounds and they seem to be ok. Got a taillight, no brake or turn on the left.

Re: 66 slammed hearse
I had a simular brake problem. My solution was to take the lines off the M.C. put plugs in and basicaly bench bleed the M.C. on the truck. I then had to bleed the whole system again. Another time I had to bleed the distribution block. I dont know what your running though.
As for your turn and brake light. I bought a new tail light socket once for a tailer and they had crimped the tail light wire without stripping the insulation. I had turn and brake but no taillight. Might be a long shot but worth a look. Just be sure to check every conection realy well.

Re: 66 slammed hearse
Yeap, I agree....when new, you have to blench bleed the CRAP out of those MC's.
Right when you think your done out comes more air bubbles. No power at the bulb housing....Hmmm you checked the connector leaving the firewall, no break in the harness ??

Re: 66 slammed hearse
I have a CPP master setup. I clamped the pressure bleeder on it and bled the crap out of the whole system. I will go out to the shop and clamp it back on and try again. also going to recheck the harness, I had brake lights till I fixed them, you know, if it aint broke, fix it till it is

Re: 66 slammed hearse
check your rear wheel cylinders?
Remember how my truck was pulling to the right that one day, we knew it was the left front wheel cylinder going bad, the other day I got in , and it had just let go completely, brake pedal to the floor, and all the fluid on the inside of the left front tire! |
