GM has archive pics of 4x4's from 61-63 that show them.

Re: Hubcaps

I learned something today about hubcaps. I bought a set of caps from a fellow board member and got them today. He said that they were from a set of 17" 8 lug clip type wheels from his c20. They are the same as my 16" 8 lug clip type wheels from my c20. They are identical. They look just like the one on the left in sodly's first picture. They are 8 3/4" across the back. My wheels are the 66 split rims.

Re: Hubcaps

Going to check out a new yard tonight. Guy sent a picture too me says he has thousands and all caps $10 each. Just a teaser pic, but looks like a 60-63 cap in the lower left corner. I will get all 56-66 caps I can find to try and help out members who need them

I have seen both....a lot of debate over if factory offered. Jolly has a painted set on one of his rigs also....he is one of the "real purists" on these trucks and I have to believe they are correct.

Chevrolet: The '61 thru '63 styling hubcap is indentical. The factory put hubcaps on '61 4x4's, but dropped them for '62 and '63. So, I look at hubcaps on any '62 thru '66 Chevy 4x4 as an accessory item, something the dealer could have installed or the owner could have installed after the sale. GMC : The factory installed hubcaps on '60 thru '65 4x4's, dropped them for '66.

Re: Hubcaps

My 62 GMC has all 4 oem stainless caps on 16.5" wheels. I would like to go to 16", mostly because of tire availability. Will these caps fit a 16" wheel?

Re: Hubcaps

At the risk of starting an argument, according to my research because GMC was sorta in a hurry to roll out the 1960 model year with the new V-6, they sorta forgot to design a new cap. SO for at least the first 6 months, the correct caps for the 1960 model year should be the 57-59 caps.
This is supported in color pictures of the early model ads and information packets. I decided to us the 59 caps as in the ads.

BTW you can see where I got my idea of the two tone.

Re: Hubcaps

Also...some 3/4 ton caps for 58-61 GMCs that popped up on ebay a while back. Were advertised as for clip wheels w/ 16", 16.5", 17.5" and 19.5" rims. Some have blue paint and some have red, not sure of the difference.

It did! Thanks. I just bought some clips and I'm ready to experiment on some 16" nub wheels that were free with tires. When my debt card cools off I will get some Econoline wheels to swap them over to.

Re: Hubcaps

The pics are of them. I put a post up about them and a forum member has picked them up. He will get some measurements off the caps for this thread. They weren't up long....

Re: Hubcaps

The one with the ridge or embossed ring (top left) is '66....the others are '64-65....at least that's what I've gathered....

Ok, that's what I was thinking also. Someone got a nice set of caps for that price. I saw them last night and almost got them myself, but I don't have a 64-66 and knew a member would grab them.

I think they were resprayed by PO. Looks ok though. Ive considered color matching my exterior trim. I did with my sail panels for the back of cab trim.

Re: Hubcaps

Well.... a shame and a save all in one. Found a real nice deluxe 63 cap online for $30 obo. Offered $20 and the guy accepted the offer. Downside is someone drilled a whole right smack in the middle of the cap ( was evident in the pics posted). Figured it'd make a nice cap for a shop clock or possibly repair down the road...but the price was right. I picked up a clock mechanism last night from hope depot, so i'll see how it comes out tonight.
