No picture worthy updates but I am making progress. I've got most of the engine compartment wiring completed, just need to finish up a few things. I was able to power up the PCM and pull the factory tune, so I can play with that on rainy days, . I also checked the DBW pedal and it seems to activated the throttle body correctly, .

I also started installing the Fatmat installation, considering how large this beasts is, that's going to be a job! The interior wiring is about 50% done, I'm just waiting on my gauges.

No one really notices all the small detail stuff and it's what takes the most time!

FWIW, you only need to cover 25% of the panels with FatMat. Focus on the center of large panels. After that point, the benefits are minimal. Might save you some time and you can use the remnants for another project.

Panel resonance. That's all constrained layer dampening products are made for. They are designed to add mass to the panel to lower its resonant frequency. If you cover every panel with a CLD that has an aluminum layer, you will see SOME insulating properties, but it's an inefficient way of doing things. For a greater reduction of temperatures in the vehicle, you'd want to use a thermal barrier.

IF you want to get that luxury car tomb-like feel, you'll want to use closed cell foam over the CLD followed by a layer of mass-loaded vinyl. The CCF will isolate the MLV from the vehicle, and the MLV is what blocks out the noise.

Looks like a third digital display with the 3 buttons. It just has the markings like a non-tach cluster instead of being just black, right Rob?

Thanks for the links! The entire underside of my suburban is covered in Line-X. How much do you think that will aid in noise reduction?

I'm not sure. The only vehicles I've been in that had the full line-x treatment underneath were 4x4's w/big tires.

I bet it does help, but without taking measurements before and after, I'd just be guessing at how much improvement you'll see w/the Line-X. It will increase the mass of the panels (which is the purpose of the CLD,) but the floors are pretty rigid compared to other areas of these burbs. The places that are really bad resonance-wise are the big panels; the hood, roof, rear sides and doors. It might also help by reducing road noise coming through the wheel wells. I'd be surprised if it didn't give you some thermal protection from the engine/exhaust, too.

With that said, most of those would probably just be bonuses to the protection it gives the vehicle. If you REALLY want it quiet like a new luxury car, you need to get the purpose-designed stuff, IMO.

Trying to get my boy ready for college this fall so progress has been slow. Still working on integrating all of the wiring harnesses while trying to making them look neat and clean. Hopefully I'm not to far away from a light off.

On a different note, I'm trying to decide if I want to go with 72 style door panels or the early style 69-71. I've tried to keep somewhat true to the "Cheyenne Super" look, but can't decide on this part. Plus, I'm not sure how hard it's going to be to track down the panels. Thoughts or suggestions?

72 panels are difficult to find in decent condition, and the re-pops are junk. Your Burb is a 69, so I would go with the 69 only door panels which you can get a decent re-pop in that style.

It's a 69, but I'm running a 72 grill and bumper, . I guess I'll look around for some 72 stuff before I make my decision.

Ok, well I have been making progress, (the wiring is nearly done), but I have run into a couple of setbacks that will take about 3 weeks to overcome. Also I made another change that will slow me down somewhat until the new part comes in (late August, early September), so this saga continues......
