Thanks Kevin. Next is wiring it a little cleaner than the first time. I also polished a couple of parts that were previously painted and I can put those on. But I still have tons of stuff that I can do to it, one big one is colorsand the whole truck......weeeeee.

Thanks bro! Having a few extra hands helped alot, but I did manage to scratch the frame very little and one header. Nothing too bad but we just took our time and watched it from every angle.

After 2 and a half days straight working on the engine to get it prepped it was time to test it out. First try it wanted to crank 2nd try she was running and sounding great even without timing or any carb adjustment. Amazing!!! It sounds great with the Flowmasters on it, here is a little sample. My camera was almost dead but I got this much vid.

Thanks Bro, it sure feels good having it makin sweet tunes again. But now I have some ventilation issues with the block and may be cuttin holes in in the back of those nice painted valve covers. Not a bummer but a chance to make it look even more trick than before!

I saw a PCV hooked up to a set of those valve covers that was put into the back side out of the way. It looked good but I bet it sucked oil like crazy. Don't think there is room to retrofit a stock valve cover oil baffle at the back. Maybe you could put a fabricated oil shield over it that could clear the rocker arms.

Not really a good place to put a breather on the top of those classic valve covers. Maybe one of the old Offy elongated pedestal style ones would fit above the Chevrolet script.

I found some baffled air filter bungs that are very thin so I hope they will work, should find out when they get here in a few days. Cuttin holes in the back of the valve covers is really buggin me, but I have to get the engine breathing properly.

I had a good day workin on the truck! The airride is working.....almost perfect, and some of the wiring was done. This one wire alternator kinda has me stumped, but I will figure it out soon. All of the vacuum lines are starting to look ugly so I am going to try and make the installation a little a little cleaner lookin. Figured I would get a pic of the engine since this is as complete as it has ever been, and that feels great!

If you haven't cut the valve covers yet, think on this for a bit.

You already have the oil filler tube, they make breather filter caps for those, don't they? Looks kind of like you already have one, but with a hose connection...?

Some cars (like 88-91 civics with 'dpfi' - honda's term for TBI) had a threaded PCV valve - you could drill a hole through the manifold into the lifter valley (not into the intake runners), thread it (I'm sure it's a metric thread, although there are probably other threaded PCV valves out there), install the PCV, and then between that and the breather-filter-equipped oil fill tube, your crankcase pressures should be fine.

The cars that came with those valve covers used the road draft tube to relieve crankcase pressure, so that's proof you don't need to ventilate the valve covers themselves.

I look forward to seeing this one in person someday.

Thank you for checkin out the thread! I will absolutely take what you have said into consideration. I do already have a PCV valve in the intake and will reroute my vacuum lines to the carb for more ventilation. If that isn't enough then I will use a "T" and split it to the PCV and the carb. That should be enough to evacuate the crankcase but as a last option I will drill the covers although I really hate to do so. I will be at the Super Chevy show in Baytown on Sunday the 16th of October, maybe you'll be able to make it!!

I had planned on getting the bed ready for paint today, but it didn't quite happen. I tried to finalize the sanding but it took longer than I had expected (isn't that always the case?). But I did come up with this nifty "chuck wagon" cover that completely encloses the bed so I wouldn't have to cover eveything and would be able to paint outside. GRAVY TRAIN!!!!! Like the old dog food commercial.
