Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Little more progress tonight.
I had to change out the races in the hubs. They stockers came out easy with a punch and hammer. I hit the hubs with a torch and left the new races in the freezer for a couple hours. Went together perfect!! ![]() Next came packing bearings and assembly!! ![]() ![]() I could not install the nut and cotter pin. I need to install a couple thick washers so the hole in the spindle aligns with the nut. Money shot......Henry at ride height with 28" wheels!! ![]() |

Looks great!
Those discs really look slick. So you've gotten SID's dropped axle for the front, are you going to do anything to the back? |

Cool old truck. I was never a fan of those pre-55ish years but I really like yours. That CLR clean up is great.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Seeing the corn supply over the visor brought back memories of a 1950 pick-up I had. When I pulled the headliner down, there was a mouse nest that was 8"s wide and stretched from one side to the other. Must have been a multi family dwelling. Your truck looks great, keeping an eye on the progress.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
How fun to discover your thread! The truck I recently picked up is almost a twin to yours. Wish mine had the deluxe chrome option and five window! i'll take time this week and read through your 52 pages (!) , should be some good inspiration.......

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I don't, but certainly will this summer when things get rolling. I was stunned to see another 3600 so similar to mine. Not common. A pic from the day she rolled onto the trailer from a 34 year slumber ........

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I'm sure enjoying your build. I like the "working man" types of builds with budget constraints and all that goes along with being a normal guy trying to fix up an old truck.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
As much as red wheels have been as overplayed as matte black, I do like them on your truck. It gives it a proud American theme. As mentioned earlier, a tan color to tie into the pinstripe would be my 2nd choice and using a red pinstripe inside the beauty ring, or if red wheels then using a tan pinstripe on them just inside the beauty ring.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I am not sold on the red at all........Satin Black with a bone or tan pinstripe is what I leaning towards. Maybe running newer, smaller caps so more of the rim shows.
To many choices!! |
