Re: geezers unite
Will turn 55 this year and just finished my first truck build. For some crazy reason I have commited to building 3 more!
Some days I feel like I've been thrown off of a two story building so I imagine its not going to get any easier (cronic pain) but you guys and this site make it much, much easier then it could have been and I thank goodness that the powers that be let me be part of this thing.

Re: geezers unite
well guys I turned 65 in December signed up for Medicare and a couple weeks ago I got this pain like somebody hit me with a 2x4 in the back then couldn't catch my breath, I thought it was the cold weather and had a lung problem well it went away and like most of us do I ignored. I went to work in the morning and was fine all day then I went outside after getting home to do something and then same thing happened so I went into the house and took an aspirin and a big glass of water and it went away again, later that night I told my wife I didn't feel well and wanted to get checked out at the ER well they didn't let me out of the Hospital did a stress test the next day that didn't go so well and 2 hrs. later I was in the operating room having 2 stents put in. So all you old farts lesson learned don't ignore the chest pains and sudden back aches or weird fellings you never know I and glad I am here to type this.

Re: geezers unite
Thanks everyone, I am back to work now so far so good I rattle when I walk with all the pills I have to take but better than the alternative. I have a pretty easy job being a Building Engineer, great boss and company that really care about their employees I am really going to miss it when I retire in 1.5 yrs.

Re: geezers unite
Sure, I turned 70 the 21st of Feb. I can still bend over far enough to pull on my own socks in the morning, I still don't have to take any more than the occasional advil for the minor aches and pains, and I'm staying regular, so I guess I'm doing pretty well for an "old geezer"!
The younger folks may not see the satisfaction in these three simple actions, but there will come a time when the simplest things are victory's.

Good Lord willing, in 16 days, I'll turn 73. Spent today in the shop working on a livestock trailer for my sil. Had a light stroke a few years ago, cost an eye, can type, better than talk, as I can correct my mistakes, takes about 5 steps to stand up before I'm up, and the Advil bottle is a good item to have around. But, try never to look at what I don't have, and be thankful for what's left. I hope I can always be positive, upbeat, have a sense of humor, and see the glass half full, regardless of what the future may hold.

Re: geezers unite
Life comes in waves, first you want to be able to ride a bicycle, then you want to drive a car, next comes the fact that you want to get better after you had that first accident. The followup to that is the first job and freedom from the parents. That is followed up with moving back into the house to get away from the bills that you did not realize was out there. You get educated in many ways, legally and illegally. You go off to war, at least I did (Vietnam), and then you come back to what---More bills and if you were not paying attention marriage---kids---mortagage---more bills. You now get the first job in civilian life and now you are on your way to success???? What ever that is--you have no clue and you do not want to think about it either. Now you are going through life--kids in school, kids graduating---college--more bills. Kids going of to war. Next you are looking forward to the retirement and the best years of your life, the house is paid for---MAYBE. Now you are at 59 years old and screaming towards 60--thinking about what your investments should be and wishing that you had cared in those early years---remember we talked about this. Medicare is going down the drain, social security is just out of reach and will always be that way, and you want to build another project, BUT you are looking at the cost of living in a retirement community and guess what, they only have carports that limit your amount of wrenching, shucks ain't life grand.
I am glad that I have a nice large garage behind the house that I am just about to pay off. Now if I would just go out and start on that 68 truck.

Re: geezers unite
62 here and fixing to retire from from SpiritAerosystems on the March 29th. Getting close, huh? 34 and a half yrs. is plenty!
I've been saving up projects just so I know I can keep busy. I think my 57 Chevy 4 door wagon will be the place to start, but I will have to intermingle that with a few more projects. Great feeling to know you are just about done. |
