still causing trouble, still over-amping the vises, still building trucks.

looking forward to retirement or already there.
i'm 60 years young and still kickin ass. got 5 active auto projects and looking for more. life's been pretty damn good...

I’ve never really grown up. I’m 63 and retain the same enthusiasms I had when I was a teenager. The old beat up carcass doesn’t always approve however, requiring better planning to minimize bending, twisting, and heavy lifting. Health problems put me in early retirement a few years ago, and now that we’ve adjusted to the reduced income I could never go back. I love spending every day doing whatever I find interesting, and being held only to my own standards.

Abilities to crawl around on concrete are limited, but being a former Jarhead really helps with the attitude. Old and broken has never prevented me from doing anything I want. It just slows me down a bit. Efficiency and wisdom also come with a lifetime of experience, making it much easier to avoid costly or painful misadventures.

In spite of any limitations, in the last few years I’ve managed to paint my truck, upholster the interior, redo the engine compartment, design parts for my machinist son to fabricate, and dozens of other projects not related to the truck.

When I was a kid, the father figures on TV all sat on the sofa in a nerd sweater or sport jacket reading the newspaper. Never could see myself fitting into that image. I figure I’ll have plenty of time to evolve into a mature/elderly/senior citizen if I live long enough to become completely incapacitated. Until then I’ll continue finding fulfillment in the same pursuits I’ve always enjoyed.

I make it a priority to achieve three simple goals every day - learn something new, make a difference, do something that makes me happy. So far it’s working!

I'm 50, and I still am more active than most. Surfing 100 days a year, building 3 projects in 3 years (boat, VW, now truck) building my shop before that (all wood working stuff). And working over 2700 hours a year, well, now that things have tanked and the space program is over I'm down to 40 hrs a week. My coworkers ask how do I do it and I say I can do that in my sleep.... If I slept.

Looking forward to retiring near the beach and just restoring trucks and travel trailers. Another 8-10 years and I should be there.

I just turned 55 on Aug.6 and got my first senior citizen discount, saved 6 bucks. Ive rebuilt / restored afew cars over the years, 392 hemi t bucket,TA challenger, 2 or 3 55-57 trucks, v8 pinto. Working on the 65 now,its going slow but running now. Also mess with vintage racing go karts and mini bikes, and trying to restore a couple of 1940's jukeboxes. Being semi retired/unemployed, very little money to spend on the truck now.

62, I STILL road race vintage Kawasaki F9R, H1R, and H2R and Yamaha TZ750/TZ250 motorcycles, still detest automatic transmissions, ride street bikes like a GPZ'd Kawasaki KZ1300 6 cylinder, RZ500 V4 2 stroke, Yamaha SR500 single, and a whole lt more. I still do track and field events, play baseball, run, work out. Today, I rode one of the bikes into town, to my sister's house, 9 miles, then, rode around town getting errands done, on my bicycle with parts trailer, another 10 miles, and it is 104 degrees today. I do a lot of volunteer work here, fixing all sorts of stuff for all kinds of people around here, working on lady's cars for free labor (cleaned the cables and replaced the transmission filter on a lady volunteer friend's 2001 Dodge turbo Diesel this morning, installed a transmission pan drain plug), house repair, plumbing, heating, cooling, electrical, and, in all sorts of weather. I work about 14 to 16 hours per day, and when I take a weekend off and go riding one of my bikes, I do 200, 300, 400 miles per day rides. Being active keeps my mind working and thinking.

I'm 17,in a 58 year old body!
I too am laid-off and semi-retired for the past 2 years.
Electrician by trade.Also run my own electrical,a/c business.
Been working on and rebuilding cars and trucks al my life.
Mostly 57 Chevies.Doing a 57,2 door hardtop now and have a 4 door hardtop I've been driving since 1978.
Also working on my 64 GMC(351,V/6),a 67 Impala,and a 67 ElCamino.And driving a 65 Caprice.
With age comes health problems.I have a bad knee abd back trouble as well as reumatoid arthritis.Slows me down but won't stop me!
If I can keep my mind busy,hopefully my body will keep following as long as possible!

I wish I could find the poll taken here on the forum a couple years ago "how old are you" but it actually revealed that most hotrodders are either 20-35 then a big gap, then about 50-70 years old. Between 35 and 50 very few.

I may win the geezers title being 69 years old. Still able to do what I enjoy although at a slower pace. I may never grow up although I will grow older, hopefully.
Once was a drag racer and that excitement is still in my blood. Enjoy watching NHRA events. Glad to read the previous positive posts!!

I'm 50 and I can relate to every post above. Many projects going at the same time. Still have to work another 5 years to get my boys to finish college then I can retire. So many plans for when I retire and I'm glad cause there is no light at the end of the tunnel ( I hope that means I will live a long time).

turning 60 next month. I have all the aches and pains all you other geezers are feeling and it's much harder to get up and down while working on my 66 LWB. Still have the hot rod heart. This is my first project in quite a few years. Got the kids out of the house so I have some free time. I got laid off 2 1/2 years ago, went back to school and got a degree in electronics and now I'm just waitng to see if some place will hire this old fool for a few more years. The wife says I can't retire until she can but I feel pretty retired right now. Would be better with a little more spare cash for the hobbies, but things ain't too bad. We manage to get quite a bit of camping in and I've got even more time to work on the truck and get other projects done.

hey lostmy65, thanks for the age polls and you're more than welcome to chime-in. when i was 46 my search engine was a lot faster too.

what i'm diggin' is the stories, history and personal interests that has enriched the lives of those that share in the same passions from all walks of life. and all parts of the country.

me, i get up at 4:30 every morning, grab a cup and go out in the shop. that is quality time to me. gives me about 3 hours to wrench or paint or mostly stare and plan. i think most everybody 50 and over gets up early. as the clock runs down, time gets more precious.

I am too young to join your club (but applaud you guys for doing what you love). I just wanted to comment on the dearth of 35-50 yr old hot rodders. I'm in that catagory (39) and it could be cause cars sucked in our teenager years! The 80's when I was coming of age had really bad cars. The trucks not so bad, but the cars left much to be desired. Maybe 3 sports cars worth having (Corvette, Camaro, Trans Am/Firebird), the 87' Grand National, or Euro/Jap cars...not alot to inspire kids my age. Luckily for me my uncles all had 60's and 70's muscle cars to keep me interested Which now that you mention it...they should be in your club

I'm 52, working in Afghanistan again (after a year here & a year in Iraq) working 70 hrs a week, work out 2 hrs a day, plus another 2 or 3 for showers/meals/socializing.

The most obvious thing I saw in the other posts was, nobody wastes time watching TV. Now that I have been away from that massive time waster, I don't miss it

I will qualify at 50 in October.
I recently took a new job with an office in city hall,after weathering the construction tides for the last few years.
This cuts down on my garage time for now , but will help my retirement date and kids college dreams.

The years and miles are starting to take it's toll on my body and mind, But I am still a hot-rodder and classic iron will always get my attention!!!

I really like the City's provided insurance as I seem to be needing the dental, vision etc. I never thought I would need SO many doctors

But the part I really hate..... is watching my friends lose the battle with cancer

62yo, retried 19years ago, bad health especially the vision limits my work load now. just sold a 48indian now am lookin for a prewar big harley as a new project. am gettin parts assembled for an S10 build for semi DD duty
spend alot of time at the beach, a nice motorcyle ride at sunrise down by the river is a good way to start the day

I'm 63 workin on my 70. I'm the one that the family calls when they need something fixed. I feel pretty lucky back if Feb my brother in law droped dead at 56 bad heart so we never know when our number is up!
