Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
By hardboard do you mean a heavy cardboard? Not any room in the chrome retainers for more than 1/8" or so before vinyl. If you are making "factory" style panels, I think using clips between the board and vinyl to anchor it will show through the vinyl in short time, it'd also be difficult to remove later-maybe not...
I used screws for simplicity and have grey apholstery screws I'll use after the panels are repaired. I think you'll need to consider speaker support in making your panels; a heavy cardboard may not hold 'em for long

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
I just read "hardboard" at Home Depot is good to use for panel backs (similar to Luan I guess). I don't really think it's heavy cardboard, but more like peg board without the holes.
I didn't even think about he clips showing through the vinyl, thanks cuz that would have sucked...I'd rather have screws showing that some random bumps! I know that 1/8" board isn't that think, but I plan to reinforce the area around the 6x9 somehow...Don't really know exactly how just yet, but I've always planned to build sometype of enclosure around the 6x9, so I'm hoping I can tie all of that together and make it strong enough. I've never done anything like this before, but sounds like a fun/inexpensive project.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
Be VERY carefull how tight the vinyl is wrapped; I've worked on a couple projects that after a short time the interior panels curved out at the edges because they were wrapped and glued/stapled quite tight and made from a thin "hard board".

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
Thanks again for the tips! Maybe I can use a thicker board but plane/route the top edge thinner to fit into the chrome strip?
Those things sure are nice! What's the top one? I've always had a thing for the smaller rides...

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
That Anglia does look small, reminds me of when I was in my 20's and had a chopped 32 Ford truck, took 5 minutes to get in it, but sure was a lot of fun till winter came, thats why I am back to 4x4's again in the cold North but did score a 64 Fairlane Sport coupe for my 15 year old twin girls lately, they are just waiting for that build.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
It's hard to capture well, but I cut the back seatback down 3" to level it out with the front seat heights; the highback look in the rear has always kinda bothered me a little.

Wow, nice clean interior. I really like the look , and the rear seat chop is a great idea and looks like the way it should have been stock!

I agree! That interior looks bad a$$! What material and thickness did you use for the rear panels?

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
The rear panels are 1/4" plywood (not mdf or "chip board"), covered in 3/16 foam then the raised center is another 1/4 foam layer. Speaker humps are just wood and fibreglass, tailgate panel, side panels and door panels are covered in grey vinyl. Stereo is in the console and I made the dash block off Bowtie.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
Thanks! It came out perfect and I really like the cut down of the rear bench...those subtle things tend to be the best modifications and this is one of them...I'm sorry, but you might see both of them popping up in my ride! Hope you take it as a compliment!

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
Awe Schucks....you guys.
I have unfinished "bezels" made of aluminium for the tail lights; need to be smoothed and polished still, not sure if I wanna use them or not yet. They'd look like them high dollar led lights with the trim.

In the pics it looks a bit lower. Did you lower it some more? Anyhow... it looks great!
