BEAUTIFUL!!! And I'm so glad you kept the white surround/black background - that stock paint setup really will make the grille stand out. Wow, your truck's come a long way, can't wait to see it come back together, looking great.

i hear ya! that's a big decision...initially had thoughts of repainting mine a similar color, & even started a thread for all teal/turquoise trucks, lol....not sure what i'll do in the end, but a total repaint is waaay down the list of things to do

Thanks for the kind words. I'll keep posting teaser pics as the paint / build gets completed.

Ya i saw that teal truck thread.. it's helped confuse me to death on whether or not to use the correct hood or the 60/61 hood. Haha.

Sent new bumpers to the painter / ex neighbors house today.. I'm sure they'll turn out great.. Soon as he gets those rims done and I get tires on them I can get the bed done next.

I have to agree. I love the early gril, but do not see the attraction to the early hoods. I know y'all are in love with the because they are unique, but I just dont see it.

All this trucks original sheet metal is all from New Mexico.. to include both hoods and grills. All the new fenders are "made in Taiwan" sadly. :/

I'm thinking of getting the TKO-500's 2-4th gears face plated.. anyone have experience with a face plated transmission?

I'm also still trying to decide if I should spend the money on the Brodix BBC Race Rite heads with the CNC combustion chamber or cheap out a little and go Pro Comp with good valvetrain parts.. I'd save a 1,000.00 if I used the procomps.. only sad part is they're made in china .. I've read some bad review but most are just smashing the fact that they are cast in China, I haven't actually seen more than 1 thread on a Pro Comp BBC head failure.. and the one I saw looked to be due to shaft rocker arms and the wrong length head bolts.. decisions decisions.. anyone have some intel on the matter? Experience with either head?

I'm also thinking about this from Porterbuilt to help lighten up the truck a little as well as increase adjust-ability. I think the moving of the shocks also allows coil overs under the stock bed floor? Not sure yet, but I do want that tubular adjustable front for the trailing arms...

So Hanlon Preformance won't face plate a TKO-500.. maybe G-force will or liberty.. we'll see. Any thought on the rear suspension? I ordered it today.

Got the bed tub done mostly.. still a little bit of a fitment issue with the tubs but that will be easily corrected with some grinding. PICS!!!! I measured today for narrowing the axle.. I figured I can chop off about 3 inches per side off the axle. Anyone else narrow a stepside trucks' axle that much? The rims are 15X10 with a 4.5" offset. The tires are actually 13-14 inches wide! (Sweet!) I also pulled out the bed wood that's been in its' shipment box for 3 years.. only a little warping on it, but it looks nice.. It's getting closer.

I think I want to cut each inner bed tub in half.. right now it looks really Pro Street.. but I'll never fill up that whole well with tire.. and the truck isn't back halfed and probably never will be.. Thoughts?

Where I'm at now..

Ordered Brodix Race Rites 270cc intake runner heads
Ordered SRP pistons and rings

Ordered front tubular control arms and sway bar. (trying to remove weight from the front end)

I was thinking of getting the whole front but really had to do a gut check on that one. My goal is a fun street / formidable drag truck.. I'm not trying to lay frame or take turns at 90 (I have the LS1 Rx7 for that). So I decided against the whole complete front kit. later I may get the rack kit and do that. But for now I really have to try and stay in line with the overall goal of the truck and it's getting hard to stay on the plan.. lol. I'm hoping to be on the road again by October -November and complete. We'll see.

Also... can I run AC with a rowdy cam ? I like the idea of AC if it'll be ok for the truck with the cam. If not.. well it's 2-60 AC for me!

Hey all,

So I'm trying to find a newer style bench seat that I can have recovered in brown leather for the truck. I was thinking maybe a split bench. I'd like it to be about the same height as the stock bench and not look too modern. So no need for head rests. Any ideas?

I bet it looks nice.. but I'm thinking it looks a bit too modern to go with the rest of the feel of my truck. I may look for a bench from some other 60-70's car or truck to get the right feel.. or attempt to get my bench fixed .(springs and foam) Soo we'll see.

Update time! I've been busy!

I got the pedals / pedal mount powder coated satin black, I hope it'll be durable and always look good

We took the cab to a booth that I could rent. It turned out nice but was kinda expensive. I think it was worth it though. We wanted to shoot the whole thing in one day but it ended up being two days and we only got the exterior done, and no doors. Still, better quality is better than slapping it all together.. I've waited too long to screw it up now. Here's the painted cab porn.

My buddy Keith B. did the actual painting, I did the final blocking on the cab. He showed me how to do a bit and then it was mine after that.. we sanded the first coat of high build with 200 grit then the second coat of high build down with 400 grit , then wet sanded the high build with 800 grit. We sanded in between coats of paint if it didn't look right or trash got in it with the 800. We ended up shooting the interior in my garage and I wet sanded the first heavy coat of gold down with 800 and then we said F it, and I purchased the more expensive Dupont paint.. then it went on smooth. I guess with paint you get what you pay for. And you get what you prep the surface for. We covered the whole exterior before we shot the gold, good thing too as the over spray got on everything! We shot Matte clear over the gold, first coat wasn't that flat but the day light pics reflect how it looks now. Flattened. More cab pics!
