Re: Project NOT4SLE

I'm getting ready to do mine. The only thing I don't see listed are brake lines and tie rods/tie rod adjusters and the idler arm. My truck drove and tracked decently, but not that tight of steering. After taking off those parts I realized why because of how loose and/or worn those parts were. With everything else you're doing those should probably be addressed as well. (and will be the cheapest things you've bought so far )

Also, the lower U-bolts that hold the lower control arms on...check them out, but most guys here replace them and upgrade at the same time to 9/16 U-bolts. napa has them for like $9/pr.

Tomorrow when I get off work I am going to try and take some pics of a steering set up I have that is brand new, I want to see if it is for a disc brake set up or not. I am pretty sure all disc brake front ends are the same on the se trucks. Maybe someone can identify it for me.

I go hunting on the 6th of November through the 12th so I am hoping to get the suspension done before then but it is doubtful.

I have the complete new steering assembly, springs, shocks, and the porter stuff to go on. AS well as new upper and lower ball joints, and cross shafts for the a arms.

recommend anything else to replace when doing the suspension?

I'm honestly not sure....I know that the tie rods ends are year specific. So it depends on what spindles you're using if they'll fit or not. I believe the idler arm will work for 67-72.

Re: Project NOT4SLE

Cool. I am waiting for that at my house...got the front end components, a gate, last patch for the cab, and a custom panel for my gate all coming in the next two weeks.

Did you ever figure out if those components will fit? Have you test fit the tie rods and/or ball joints you have in the spindles?

I believe the only problem is the tie rod ends do not sit in the spindles properly. I just unboxed them and took the pic. when i head in to the garage ill test fit them. that was the plan. then ill know for sure if they will work. maybe someone else can chime in if they know otherwise

I have the new complete set up and not sure if it is for disc brakes or drum. Im 99% sure the tie rod ends will work which is the only issue I believe might be a problem. I also have new ball joints as well. So it should be all new steering, suspension, and wheel bearings and seals when complete.

versus buying a newer truck and paying 500 a month (on the cheaper side) and 1200 a yr for insurance. You could be saving 6k( or up to 10k if you bought a new 3/4 1 ton truck with nothing down) a year trying to pay off a truck or put it into the old truck and still save on insurance.

Re: Project NOT4SLE

going to have to track down a few things for the steering as it seems I may have a steering set up for 73-87 outers. SO I am going to pick up al new steering components for my truck this week to get my suspension on.

I also tried to put my front bumper on and ran into a snag as it seems the front passenger frame rail is bent in a little bit. About a 1/2". Im going to try and get some measurements from someone and see what we end up with. The rad support does not seem to be buckled at all or bent so i believe it is just in front of the rad support mounts.

i need to try and get a measurement of the distance between both front frame rails on the top edge to edge
