Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go
I never actually said what the engine is in there.....
It's a factory LSA 6.2 Litre supercharged setup backed up with a 6 speed automatic The combo is rated a 556 HP from the factory with out a tune and through all of the exhaust.

Wow that is going to be awesome. I've already been watching along but you just made things a bit more interesting. Being a Cadillac guy as well....love the ctsv engine as it is in the car never mind in one of our trucks.... Would be cool as a standard too. Checked out your 58... Top notch as well.

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go
I looked everywhere for a LS swap and couldn't find much and I knew the caddy's had game.....But when I did research and found they had 556 HP supercharged 6.2 LS......and your 100% right I so want to test drive one now. But at 90,000 a pop I can't see one in my future anytime soon....

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go
Well my shop is jammed to the roof....and the caddy had a heck of a wack and was a pain to try and get onto a hoist...So we came up with a plan B....which was take it all to my buddies shop and cut some of the front end off and pull it out topside. Now these caddies have a engine craddle and are from what i can see are made to drop out the botom. So it was a true backyard expierence....myself and 2 friends....grinders,plasma cutter, air impacts, and a John Deer Tractor.....It was a fun day

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go
I am pumped....I figure if a LSA can make a caddy do 0-60 if 3.9 seconds......and 12.3 in the quarter....It's going to be a fun ride...

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go
Well we finished the floor rough in......there is still more to go ...but the front piece is built and the hinge is mounted to the door.....the back piece is in and slides....It's a ton fab work.

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go
You know your a redneck when:
You pull a LSA supercharged set up out of a crashed car.....on a trailer....with a tractor....I guess this is the old school way to pull it.

It wasn't my plan A......but in the end it sure was the way to do the job...with all the damage to the car.

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go
I wasn't feeling lucky so we pulled the nose off the truck.....I took a few measurements and knew it was going to be close.....First thing we did was peel off the engine mounts and bolt on the orter built LS mounts.....thats where it all started....The mounts wouldn't clear the long slung AC pump on the passenger side...so we altered the support a bit to make it work...or so we thought

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go
I knew a LS would fit in....the truck has a Porterbuilt cross member and mounts
But wasn't sure if the caddy pan set up would clear the rack. I was also concerned that the supercharger was going to impact the firewall.....and the 6L90 would require a massive floor cut.

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go
Spent some time under the truck yesturday and found a few more challenges......nothing that can't be fixed or altered to work. This isn't the first time I have bought a poject truck and finished it off....I think most of us have been down this road and know what comes wih it. I wasn't thinking LSA when I bought it but I was thinking maybe LS . Someone else had a differnt vision when they had it and so on....and thats how it rolls so to speak.
-The floor patches need a little TLC from the bottom side and the rockers inners aren't welded to the rocker outers -The new wire harness needs to be pulled out... wrapped and attached to the frame -The rear end angle is way out and is going to need to reduced by about 6 degrees -Brake lines all need to be redone and rerouted... Good news is all the big stuff looks like it has game.....just some clean up here and there. But hey just a small shout out to the the guy that welded a " J " beside the " PB " that is in the center of the front cross member (porter built ). Once it was up on the hoist and we stood there looking at it....my buddy is convinced it stands for "peanut butter and jam " I don't think there was anyone who didn't laugh.....it didn't help it was lunch time and we were hungry.....
