Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
When I worked in the sawmill the lumber (boards) were pulled off the green chain and planer chain and put on Jitney blocks and between the rows of boards ever so often to keep the stack of lumber straight and steady to haul away by a lumber carrier or fork truck we used "Stickers" They were rough cut 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch I think ? 4 feet long
A Jitney was a lumber carrier that staddled the loads of lumber and picked the load up by use of the jitney blocks .

If the forklift was busy elsewhere like the other crew running the planers then I just stacked the 6x6's on timbers so the forklift could move the complete bunk out of the way. This was a little bitty sawmill way up in the mountains. The scenery was incredible

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Trimmed the slider today now I need to finish up the siding.
Just like Tim I try to use azek on the outside of the house . Will outlast me . Had to shim the door 3/4 " over to the right when I installed it this door was smaller than the one I had installed 15 years ago. So I needed to make the moldings symmetrical. Wouldn't look right one 1x6 other 1x8, used 1x8 azek with rabbet cuts for the siding . Got rid of the jmold. Replacing the temp railing and making a platform for the entrance . Little nicer than just steps right into the house

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Cut another little load of wood this morning. I'm trying to get into a routine of cutting a pickup load most every morning after chores until the rest of the semi load of logs is all blocked up and stacked in the yard. A "load" being about level with the top of the bed minus the toolbox and the spare. Just that much green wood smashes down that 1500 pretty good.
I almost need to buy one of those cheap HF hoists that you bolt into the back corner of your pickup bed. Some of these logs are huge and still mostly green. I can hardly pick up the round blocks even only cutting them about 12" long. There's still enough of that log to make about a half dozen more blocks, and that is the big end!

Right now I'm working through a 50K# semi load that I bought last fall and had dumped in the sagebrush. It's a 1/4 mile haul to the house. I've gone through all the dry stuff and trying to get the rest blocked and stacked in the yard for winter after next when it will be good and dry, before I go out and start scrounging dead trees from the woods again. I've got a bunch of misc saw work also: trimming lower limbs and attacking some of the thickets. That gets pretty discouraging because you spend more time dragging and stacking than cutting. Then I bought another 20 acres so that will need some forest management too 80 degrees and smokey today. I ain't doin' saw work in the afternoon.

My truck & loader wasn't so big: a C/50 and homemade loader. I did have hydraulic grapple but it didn't rotate. The boom had a heel for the butt of the log and that's how I kept it from swinging out of control. Just four valves like a backhoe: main, jib, swing, and grapple. I still can't run a backhoe because I always move the jib the wrong way. I had to trade everything off when I got sick and went back to school. I heard the GMC and loader got burned up in a forest fire I bought the other 20 acres mostly to keep anyone from building on it. Also it will make a nice campsite if family or friends visit in the summer. There's even about 200' of seasonal creek down at the bottom end

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I had an old XL when they were blue. It shook so hard that the handle screws would come loose and jump out and I would catch it while I was cutting.
I think it was a 330 that I bought brand new. I used it about three months in Alaska before something came apart under the flywheel. I got it fixed but it wouldn't run at all at over 10K' ASL in Colorado. For that matter, neither would the Huskies of that era. They would run about ten minutes and then you would have to let them cool off a while. Stihl had the isolated carb so it wouldn't vapor lock. Then I had two 045's that I ran for years. Always need a spare when you're 50-60 miles from town. I got talked into modernizing and bought an 044. It did okay until I blew it up on a hundred degree day in Montana. So then I bought the 046 and stihl running it today. But I only used it professionally about six months. Stihl don't like cold weather though. You have to work them really hard to keep them up to operating temperature in the winter. Firewood cutting is okay but falling/limbing they start to sputter. If I was timber falling again, I would run Stihl in the summer and Husky in the winter. Trouble is they don't use the same bars so you have to duplicate everything Doesn't matter since most all jobs is feller-buncher anymore. Sit in a cab and push buttons and look at a computer screen.

Stihl ms290 for me, damn good saw with both an 18” and 20” bar.
I though I was serious about my firewood before these last few posts! Nice work!

I've been working on my 20' x 40' lean-to hot and heavy since the wind storm damaged my barn. Here's a few pictures of the lean-to and the damage to the main support posts in my barn. All 8 of the main support posts are either broken or cracked. I'm not sure whats keeping it up. I thought I would include a picture of the "other" truck with my locally sawn, full dimension 2x8 rafters and 2x4 purlins. They are all from reclaimed power poles. I am now ready for the sheet metal roof. The '72 Dually has been earning her keep on this one..... LockDoc

So the lean-to is holding up your barn?
I cut another load of wood this morning. Having coffee and a snack right now and planning to go cut another load while I'm dressed for it.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Bucked up half of the white oak today . Figure there's around 10k in the trailer by my calculation the trunk was over 15k without the limbs . Going to have to put on the the weight distribution bars the hitch is in the grass . Didnt expect to have this much weight. Only going up my driveway so ya its overloaded

Made a run to the dump. Also cleaned around my truck so I could see it again.
And my wife is making her version of shoop. House smells great!
