Re: mylow53 build

the 40 ford was in for some interior paint apparently this guy wants to keep the flat black... i was told he is planning on hauling cement blocks in it. the bed of course is as nice as mine... not for long...

these last 2 shots are the color we will be painting it. i've set them on my 03 flame red dodge to compare the reds and there a match!!! a bit of an accident but i'm good with the decision

Re: mylow53 build

a little pie cut goes a long way.. brian finally cut the sides of the hood to help with the alignment. they also requested i buy the entire top cowl. even after the pie cutting they want to adjust the cowl hood alignment.... also most of the major body work is done
GT
ps notice the drip rail in the last pict is not a channel but just a blended bead line

Re: mylow53 build

ok brad and the gang just finished installing a new top cowl even though i had repaired the original they wanted to adjust it to help with the hood gap. while we were there i notice the underside of the hood had some undercoating. i've been trying to ignore this and was thinking of just rhino-lining the inside of the hood once it was painted. since they were welding the hood back together, sections of the undercoating had peeled off. so i had no choice but to scrape it off. me and the boys yes even my 4 year old went to town.. man that stuff was amazingly hard to remove. we tried heat, paint thinner, wire wheels. nothing worked... what's interesting is some one must have put this in the truck in the 70's since i bought it as a junker in 83, i didn't think they had this stuff till the 90's. in the end it was a 2 hand scraper and all your strength... 3 hours of work and it was done. now pretty much everything on my body hurts. in the end all of the major surgery is done just the final mud work is left.. Daniel i took a picture of my 4 year old trying to help. he was constantly asking for the good scraper even-though he doesn't have enough strength to use it correctly...

We try not to use the "F" word around here. This is a family friendly area, lol. Sorry, I couldn't resist. My Must.II front from TCI was about $1,800.oo, but that was back in '06. I'm sure inflation has had it's effect on the aftermarket industry as well.

Re: mylow53 build

Just install my TCI IFS to the door it was 2800.00 the 1800 is just the base price with no powdered coating and no upgrades. I purchased the kit with 12 inch brakes, air-bagged with the additional shock mount kit on the side of the lower A-arm to the frame, front swaybar, power assisted rack, and all the parts powdered coated. Worth ever penny I spent and got the truck down, put the bumber stops at 1 1/2 inches when the running boards are off the ground and wont drag incase of air failure ride height is 5-5 1/2 sweet. Alittle more in price but the ride is what im after in the suspension with the stock frame but if your putting alot of HP 400 or better, box the entire frame along with beefing it up in the center x-member,you can get the boxing plates from TCI also 225.00 you will notice the difference when you box it rite away. Go and step on the running board mounting rails watch the frame flex really bad and im only 180lbs stepping on it, now imagine 400 hp in the truck and if your like me Im putting my foot in it now you can imagine the twist with the torque in the motor and you dont want to twist the frame. I'm on a three to three and half year budget for my truck rounding out at about 17k for everything and Im not in a hurry to drive it only to have to tear it down later to do something I should have done the first time around much rather get everything I want the first time around and be done with it for me to enjoy into retirement. Will try and have update pics in blog of the install along with a detailed install of the bear claw latches using the stock door handles it came out sweet and was a clean install. Just fyi and my opinion

Re: mylow53 build

it's been so long since i did that i thought it was around 2 or 3 grand it's worth the piece of mind. i would rather put my life in the hands of a professional welder than save a grand... i've driven it for many years without the power steering, you need some good upper body strength to do a 3 point turn.... looking forward to the power-rack doing the work
thanks

Very nice, The tailgate (oops, front panel) looks like a red mirror.
This is the first time I found the thread and I've spent the last hour and a half reading it. It's very impressive to say the least.
Now to have to wait to see it as a complete truck.

Right on man!!! I know just how your feeling right now. Mine was in for panit just about the same amount of time and when you see color on the panels it is exciting. The paint looks really great. Looks like your paint guy did a great job.
