Re: Post pics of trucks w/fender mount spare tire carriers

My 64 long step had a factory spare carrier between the cab and fender. I was beginning to wonder if mine was factory because all I saw was the spare tire in the fender cut out, even on the long step, however I have been seeing a few lately in the same location as mine. Mine was pretty mangled so I had a local shop make an exact replica, only offset from the fender a little more to accommodate the extra backspacing of the wheels I'm going to run. Hopefully I measured right.

Glad this was posted. Now I know what to look for or build. I was given this spare tire carrier but its obviously not for the 61. Wondering if its for interior bed mount. Anyone know what year it fits?

That's not a factory mount for a step or fleet side. No clue as to what it came on.

Re: Post pics of trucks w/fender mount spare tire carriers

OK, I am glad this thread was revived. I have a LWB and no cutout for the spare tire. I have the carrier. I know it is going to be a tight fit. My tire height is 28" (I believe). Does anyone have the location of where the carrier fits without a fender cutout?

My bed is not attached to the truck yet, so I won't hang it until it is, but would like an idea of where.
Here is my carrier.

Interesting. Is that a stock alternate way of mounting the tire or it just happens to work?

I have not seen a ton of pictures with that mounting style, but I have seen a few that were period correct photos which leads me to believe it was an alternative way to mount the spare tire. I am not 100% sure though.

I'll be the first to buy it form you! Pm me when you want to rid of it. I have a fender in great shape that doesn't have the spare tire cut out I can trade or sell or whatever you work out. Thanks!

Re: Post pics of trucks w/fender mount spare tire carriers

Photo of fender I just purchased at Fall Carlisle , it is in the general 73 to 87 style. Looks like it maybe around 76 to 80??? Said to be NOS, but with some rust on edges. Will check-out more once home, however, initial inspection looks like never mounted. Person whom I purchased from said he has had it forever. Will get better and more photos once home, packed in truck for ride home. The wheels are 15x8". Hope it is ok to post this in this thread?

I think Keith S. has said GM made a few fender/spare tire combos in the 73 to 87 body style.
