GASP! The tie rods have RUST!

Yea, I know, I'm just envious. I like the weather pack plugs. Things like that makes your build very interesting to me.

This is the one with the smaller engine right? Do you have any guesses as the the possible MPGs?

yea, the tie rods are new (altho not in that pic).... i like to make everything modular, and factory functioning, so weather pack connectors are the only way to go.... as for MPG im guessing with the 373 gears i have, about 20mpg..

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

welp, of coarse, painters are a breed of their own (they must breath all them fumes to long) i checked in on the cab, and after 2 months it was almost the same as when i dropped it off, but it did have alot of additional bondo all over it, over rust, paint, pinholes everywhere, and everything else...so needless to say, i picked it up and brought it to another shop...where they sanded on it for about 30 mins, and suggested that it get blasted, then they'll get me a better idea of where we stand....so thats where we're at... it was blasted, and we found all the thin metal, now its holey...so they are tackeling more rust repair.....i should of found a new cab along time ago, lol....
the first set of pics is the shotty work the first shop did, and it only took them 2 months too...
the second set of pics is the blasted cab, doors were too, but now they are wearing primmer, since they were in good shape...

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

little progress to report from the painters...he got the doors fit, and primed... he wanted me to take the cab, bolt it down on the frame, then bring it back to do the final fit of the doors, and paint the rest of the cab.... so i bolted the cab on and started doing some of the little (very time consuming) things

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

i also rebuilt a factory tilt, with a few upgraded knobs, pointers, gear displayes, etc... (note to self: put the lower seal on facing the right way, or you'll be taking apart the column again )... here are a few pics

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

once i had the column installed i did a little custom gear shifter rod bending....ive done a few of these swaps, useing the same engine/trans, and the 'normal' way i bend them wouldnt of worked for this setup, im not sure what was so diffrent with this setup, but i got it all bent up and shifting well....

Very nice work on everything. Couple of quick questions, what's the part number for the Lokar shifter linkage?-(?CA-1800) Where did you buy the replacement parts for the tilt? How did they fit? thanks

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

heres a little update.... i got the steering all done... i rebuilt the steering shaft with a new rag joint, blasted, and painted it....
then to top everything off, a new grant steering wheel, its simple, yet gives the truck a retro feel...

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

i then turned my attention to getting the brake system complete... i ordered a new master/booster assy from performanceonline, painted the master cylinder, and installed it. once it was installed i bent up some stainless 3/16 lines to connect the prop valve to the brake lines i already made up.
