Didn't look like the generic race car style tubs.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Re: Locomotive Lugnut

Do you have any pictures at the ride height? I'm trying to deal with a wife who doesn't like the truck laying on the frame. Porterbuilt told me the ride height is 6", but I can't find any pictures from the side showing what it looks like at ride height.

Thanks,

Ron

Re: Locomotive Lugnut

Well it looks like I'm going with the front and rear setup for my '57. Nate wants to try something different so it should be interesting. Now the wait begins.

I'll try to get a picture of the ride height , but the website hasn't been letting me upload pics.

What do you mean by trying something different?

Re: Locomotive Lugnut

A less complex setup without having to deal with the air management system while dealing with a wife who is not a fan of laying the frame. Now I just have to figure out how to deal with the bed without her freaking out about losing a lot of it. I may try to have the bed at normal height and cover the rear suspension. I'd just leave it exposed, but need to be able to keep stuff in the bed dry. Has anybody done that type of a rear setup or is it better just to put a bed over the whole thing?

Re: Locomotive Lugnut

Did you box in the inner frame rails in front or behind the notch? Pics would be helpful if you have them.

Re: Locomotive Lugnut

Great build!

I notice you purchase an Ididit steering column kit and I beleive I have same one but I noticed that the drop column bracket doesn't bolt on directly. Did yours bolt on without modification. My dash has 4 different holes where the bracket mounts to the dash but none seem to line up. I think I have shave all holes on the dash and redrill new holes for the new drop column bracket. I figured it was a 100% bolt on?

Also what size tubing did you use on your bed?

Thanks,
Simon

Re: Locomotive Lugnut

Tried the wheels off the Riviera to see how they would look and fit. To my surprise the offset is perfect, now I'll know what to order when the time comes.

Re: Locomotive Lugnut

Looks good. Did you decide on wheels? Size and back spacing would be helpful when I get to that point. Do you know the WMS to WMS for you rear end?

I have a feeling my wife isn't going to be happy with what's left of the bed.

The countdown has begun.

Haven't decided on wheels yet ,can't make up my mind. When I do decide I'll post the specs.

FYI when I put the wheel tubs I gave myself plenty of extra room to go wider and taller so the wheels I end up getting may or may not work on your application.

Re: Locomotive Lugnut

I completely forgot to mention , the truck is running now!

For being my first LS swap I was shocked at just how easy it was to get it running.

I'm also up in the air about the wheel size in the rear. I probably won't go as big as yours in the rear if you plan on filling those tubs. I'm still torn about using a set of Delmo specials or something else. I'm going to have a 9" built so it will depend on the WMS to WMS of the rear end and go from there. Probably more like the Heisenberg's tubs. Probably the same height front and rear and just wider in the rear. It looks like it has a deeper bed in the rear. I'll need to do some occasional towing with it and some longer trips with it so more room for luggage would be helpful. I'll have to find out how much depth he has in the bed. That will all depend on how tall the Porterbuilt notch is in the rear.

I'm starting off with coilovers instead of bags. I don't know if I'll need as big of a notch. I do want to have enough that if I decide to go with Shockwaves in the future. I'm trying to save a little money up front by not having to deal with the automatic ride height components. It's going to take quite a bit longer for the build so who knows how many times I change my mind.
