I wanted something that still looked old, but was still wood and could be used. The steel plate that was in there was just plain ugly. Here's the before and afters.





Just cut some pine from home depot, burned it, and installed it using my old bed strips. It doesn't look totally out of place, but it is fully functional. Already took its first 1k# load of scrap to the scrap yard.

Can you put a sealer over the burnt wood and what happens if you sand it? Does that also work with oak? I really like the way it looks and wanted to try it on my oak wood and then try to seal it instead of using stain.
